Aloha Friday (1 of 5)

Photobucket
Friday is a busy meme day...so let's get started and have fun !!!!

Photobucket
Hosted by An Island Life http://islandlife808.com/
From An Island Life: In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, visit An Island Life answer the question and then post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!
My question is:
With summer right around the corner, what are your favorite things about this season?
My favorite things are not having to wear heavy clothing, having the windows open and hearing the birds chirping early in the morning, the mini vacations we take to Cape Cod, but most of all, relaxing by or sitting in our pool with a book.

Friday Fill-Ins (4 of 5)

Photobucket
And...here we go!
1. I was missing my laptop and blogging while in hospital.
2. I ran some errands and I left my book on the table, which I never do, can't leave home without a book!
3. Why does it seem that morals and courtesy have disappeared?.
4. Hubby was in my thoughts today.
5. One of my father's favorite sayings was "diamonds are an investment".
6. Feeling naked without a book--I know that feeling!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to resting, tomorrow my plans include reading and resting and Sunday, I want to do something but will have to rest and read, can't do much else while recuperating!

Silent Scream by Karen Rose (Rating 5)
Published by Grand Central Publishing The Hachette Book Group
At the request of The Hachette Book Group, a PB copy was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion.
Synopsis: (from back of book) He knows your secrets. When a teenage girl dies in a suspicious fire, Detective Olivia Sutherland is assigned to track down the arsonist. Then she discovers something more sinister: a vicious blackmailer who preys on young people and murders without hesitation. Making her work even harder is sexy firefighter David Hunter. He's not only sharing the case, but sparking memories of their long-ago night of passion, when feelings were left unsaid and hearts were broken. He hears your pain. David has his own ghosts, and a million regrets. But while he and Olivia try to face the wall of pain between them, a diabolical puppet master is pulling strings to make a group of twenty-somethings do his bidding. Soon Olivia and David are scouring the city for a calculating criminal who seems tantalizingly close- and is moving in for the kill.
My Thoughts/Opinion: Lock the door, pull down the blinds and don't answer the phone. This book pulls you in from page one and doesn't let go. GRIPPING!! It contains so many story lines, murder, arson, blackmail, relationships, romance, all in one book. I have only one word for the author's writing style....AMAZING!!. From page 1 to page 570, this book is a non stop roller coaster ride of suspense with many twists and turns. And an ending that this reader didn't see coming. This is the second book that I have read of this author and I will be reading more of her books in the future. I am looking forward to reading her newest book I Can See You, which is out now.

Unfortunately I was not able to join in on my fun Wednesday memes.  Had appointments for in home medical care, which wiped me out.  The assessments went well, especially physical therapy, but they will be coming back 3 times a week to build up my muscles and wean me from the walker to a cane.  Even though it took a lot out of me and what they made me do increased my pain level, I was so happy to hear them say that I was so much better than the first discharge and felt that with future therapy I will become stronger.  Another good thing that came out of it was since my pain level increased, I was not able to sit in front of my computer but sat in my recliner, read and finished a book.  WooHoo...starting to get the ball rolling.  Review will be posted later today.  Now to today's meme.

Today's question:
God* comes to you and tells you that, from this day forward, you may only read ONE type of book–one genre–period, but you get to choose what it is. Classics, Science-Fiction, Mystery, Romance, Cookbooks, History, Business … you can choose, but you only get ONE.

What genre do you pick, and why?
This one is easy, don't even have to think twice.  It would be mystery/suspense.  I can't even tell you how many years I have been reading this genre, trust me...it's a lot.  I have been an avid reader as long as I can remember and have always gravitated to the mystery/suspense books.  I think I enjoy these books because I try to be a PI and figure out the ending.

Photobucket
Hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading http://shouldbereading.wordpress.com/
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
*Grab your current read
*Open to a random page
*Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
*BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
*Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Teaser:
She was walking west, probably to grab a bite of lunch.  He put his van in gear and slowly followed.  A little ether on a handkerchief and the element of surprise would do the job nicely.

WooHoo.....first meme in 3 weeks.  It sure feels good to be back !!!!!!!!!!!

Photobucket
Hosted by Rebecca at Just One More Page http://rebeccavoy.blogspot.com
Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about the war books
With yesterday being Anzac Day, I thought I’d ask a theme question this week. Are you a reader of war books? And if so, do you have any favourites?
Not sure if this counts but the only "war book" that I read was The Diary of Anne Frank, which I read many years ago while in elementary school but it touched me so deeply that I still can recall the images that I created from reading the book.  It is definitely one of my all time favorites reads of my lifetime.

Photobucket AGAIN !!!!!

Photobucket

OK.....going to try this for a second time !!!!!!!!  I am back again and hopefully this time to stay.  I missed all my book blogging friends and apologize that there has been no update.  Will give a quick summary of why I haven't been here.
MY Photobucket JOURNEY
Unfortunately I had a major setback.  After being discharged to home after the surgery I had a bad reaction to one of my pain meds, which played havoc on my blood pressure.  Because of this, on 2 occasions, while walking with my walker I experienced signs of low blood pressure (becoming faint) and fell.  I was rushed to our local hospital both times and then on the 2nd ER visit to make sure no damage was done to the hardware in my back, I was transported to the out of state hospital where the surgery was done.  Once there and readmitted, I had some major complications that at times were critical.  But as of Friday night I turned the corner and was able to be discharged to home yesterday.   I am weak and still have a lot of post op pain but feel that now I am on the right road to recovery.....it will take time but I am willing to take baby steps.  It feels good to be home.

I have a lot of catching up to do !!!!!!!  I am very behind in my reading and reviews, never even opened a book while in hospital because I was too sick.  I also need to catch up with all my favorite blogs and resubscribe to newsletters.  HAVE A FAVOR TO ASK.....if you have any news that I might have missed over the past 3 weeks and would like to share, I would love to hear about it.  It will take time but eventually I will be back to my old self and schedule.  It can only get better from here !!!!  I am glad to be back and plan on staying this time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am home from the hospital and have been reunited with Lily Laptop.  First, I want to thank everyone for the well wishes, thoughts and prayers.  I truly believe that the prayers that were offered up for me worked as I had a serious complication but am ok now.  The surgeries were successful.  I am definitely not jumping up and down like my little smiley buddy, but with time I hopefully will be.  I am walking with a walker and still in the  height of postoperative pain.  I will try to get back into blogging slowly but it is hard due to the pain.  I also want to thank the new followers that have visited and decided they liked my blog.  Hopefully it will be sooner than later that I am fully up and running, strutting, skipping, taking baby steps.  Again thank you.  It is good to be back.  Missed you all !!!!

Cheryl's Update

Hello everyone. This is Cheryl's younger son, Mark. I would like to inform you that the surgery was successful with minimal complications. She is doing great and we expect her to come home soon to begin the recovery process. I talked to her today and she is looking forward to get back on and talk to you all. Have a great week everyone!

While I Am Gone

Photobucket
Once discharged, it is going to be hard to catch up on all the blogs that I follow and/or subscribe to so I would like to ask a favor.  If you have a second and think that there is someting that I might be interested in that is happening in bloggy land, would you kindly add it here so I have a starting point of which way to go when I get home.  Thanking you all in advance.  Have a great week !!!!!!

Happy Easter

Photobucket

Since tomorrow is Easter Sunday, I am thinking that the world of blogging will be a lot quieter as many will be celebrating the holiday with family and friends.  So I want to take this time to wish all a very Happy Easter !!!!
Photobucket

Also, knowing that I still have a lot to do before leaving early Monday morning for surgery, that this will be my last posting until I am discharged from the hospital.  This comes from the heart and is said with great sincerity, I am going to  miss the fun memes, miss reading what is going on at everyone's blogs, who is reading what, what titles I should put on my TBR list because of someone's review (like I will ever get through reading all the books I have on the list now), meeting new blogging friends and touching base with old (I don't mean as in age lol) bloggy friends....one sec here....need to grab a tissue, wipe my eyes so I can see my screen....oops putting on my glasses may help also  lol)  What I am trying to say is ...I am going to miss all of you and it won't be soon enough for me to get discharged and being back into the neighborhood of blogging.  I do, however, have a favor to ask.  I will explain in the next posting....to be continued.......

My question is:  People celebrate Easter Sunday according to beliefs and traditions.  Do you celebrate with a special Easter Sunday dinner and if so, what is the main entree?
Being Catholic, Easter Sunday is a religious holiday for us and we celebrate starting with an antipasto then a baked ham and all the fixings.

Photobucket in the fun. You don't need a blog to comment, but if you do and want to join in, links provided for each and all memes.
