Enquiring Minds

THURSDAY

Photobucket
I would like to ask a small favor of all that live in freedom.   Please take time today, and offer a prayer for or say Thank You to, all that have served and gone before us and another one for those who are currently serving to protect that very freedom.  To all the men and women in the military, from the bottom of my heart, Thank you. You truly are heroes!

It struck me recently how much time I spend on this computer every day, blogging, chatting or playing games on Facebook, emailing friends and relatives, making cards and calendars, etc. etc. etc.
We depend on each other for book reviews, giveaways, encouragement, friendship, but how well do we really know each other?

Today's Question:
I’ve seen many bloggers say that what draws them to certain books or authors is good writing, and what causes them to stop reading a certain book or author is bad writing. What constitutes good writing and bad writing to you?
My Answer:
Good question!!  I just had this happen.  I picked up the next book in line from my request pile, liked the synopsis, liked the title and then started to read.  Fifty + pages and had to put it in the DNF pile.  It was very wordy, and in my opinion rambling at times.  I still hadn't been pulled into the story line by the 50+ pages.  Picked up the next book, same thing, good synopsis, good title, started reading and was hooked by the first page and a half.
If I can't connect with the characters, storyline and/or visualize the scenes through the author's written words by the first 50 pages, then I can almost guarantee it will end up a not so good and/or a DNF.  I used to have 100 pages as my cut off point, but an author told me that a reader should be "hooked" within the first few pages.

WEEK 10 QUESTIONS

Did you vote on Tuesday?
As I hang my head in shame and shake it no, I didn't.  First time that ever happened, I swear!!  Since I am still not allowed to drive and hubby didn't leave work until very late, he went straight to the polls and just made it himself.
Where do you get news about what's happening in the world? (Newspapers, Internet, Local Television Stations, Cable News, etc.)
Morning routine includes booting up computer, grabbing coffee mug and turning on TV first for local news then to a cable news station, which stays on all day, just in case there is breaking news (have done this ever since 9/11).  I also subscribe to CNN Breaking News for my computer.
Do you read in bed before you go to sleep?
Most of the time, but lately no, by the time hubby gets home, we eat, clean up, talk, we are asleep by the time our heads hit the pillows.

WEEK 9 QUESTIONS

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY?
It was always Christmas Eve.  But haven't done it in a few years due to my health.  We would host a sit down supper for immediate family and friends, consisting of a 5 course fish and sides dinner (that is a Catholic/Italian tradition) and then have an open house for anyone and everyone that usually went into the wee hours of Christmas morning.
ARE YOU DRESSING UP FOR HALLOWEEN? IF YES, AS WHAT?
   No
IF YOU HAVE KIDS ARE THEY DRESSING UP? AGAIN IF YES, WHAT ARE THEY DRESSING UP AS?
Since both boys live out of state, not sure.  My youngest son did tell me that where he lives, that there will be a party in the club house and both him and his gf are getting dressed up.  Hoping they send me some pictures.

So here are the Week 8 Questions

1. Do you ever feel like no one is reading your blog?
No because those that are reading them are also taking the time to comment, so I know some friends are visiting.  What amazes me, is that they are visiting lol.
2. Would this meme work better for you if it was offered on a different day?
I like it on Thursday's because I only have one other meme that I participate in on Thursdays.
3. Do you think there are already too many similar memes out in the blogisphere and I should stop this one?
There are many memes just like there are many blogs yet discovered.  I think it really is up to the host because it does take time.
Sorry extra question this week.
4. If I were to continue with Enquiring Minds do you have any advice or changes you would like to see.
        Not yet!! lol

Each Thursday I will post 3 questions for you to answer that you can copy and post on your blog with your answers.
1. How many hours per day do you spend at your computer?
Photobucket
I probably spend more time on the computer than I really should.  But between blog hopping, commenting, keeping my blog updated, writing reviews, etc etc., it is probably 4+ hours/day.  I do enjoy being on the computer but need to read more and less computer.

2. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Photobucket
Hmmmmm...Double Chocolate and Peanut Butter.  Ice cream is my comfort food !! Just a little P.S. about this question.  LOL  this one was mean since I am on a diet and just thinking about ice cream is testing my will power LOL

3. Do you own an E-Reader, Kindle, Nook, etc? If yes, which one and how do you like it. Please give us the Pros and Cons.
Photobucket
My hubby surprised me and bought me a Sony EReader in December.
Pros:  Size, easier to put in purse and take it on the go,  price of ebooks, no need for more bookcases for storage are just a few of the pros.
Cons:  no back light, battery life is not long enough (it probably would be enough for those who aren't avid readers)

Now your enquiring mind knows!!!!
