Friday Memes

FRIDAY

Photobucket

Hosted by An Island Life
From An Island Life:
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, visit An Island Life answer the question and then post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My Question:
What is your desktop picture?

My Answer:
My 4 kids..my 2 sons and their girlfriends.

The Hop lasts Friday-Monday every week, so if you don't have time to Hop today, come back later and join the fun! This is a weekly event! And stop back throughout the weekend to see all the new blogs that are added! We get over 200 links every week!!
Your blog should have content related to books, including, but not limited to book reviews.

"What are your feelings on losing followers? Have you ever stopped following a blog?"My Answer:
When that happens, I wish I knew why. It feels like I am losing a friend but don't know what I did. However, I have stopped following some blogs if they haven't posted in a month or so. I also may stop following if we no longer have the same genres in common

Today's Twist:
"What is the one bookish thing you would love to have, no matter the cost?"
My Answer:
It would be the newest model of either the Nook and/or Kindle.  I have a Sony EReader but it doesn't have a back light nor wireless d/l which I think a 2 important features, at least for my needs.

This week's twist:
"Where is your favorite place to read?  Curled up on the sofa, in bed, in the garden?"
My answer:
It depends on the time of year.  Now that it is getting cold, it would be in my recliner wrapped in an afghan in my new, but not completely finished, office/library.  During the summer it is sitting by or on a float in the pool.

This Week's Twist:
"When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move to your next title?"
My answer:
Since I started accepting book requests, I will read at least 100 pages and if by then, if the book hasn't grabbed me, it goes in the DNF pile.  With books that I just can't get into, I feel that I am wasting time because I  find every excuse not to pick it up and continue reading.  That is why I put the 100 page rule in my "Review Policy".

This week's question:
What's your favorite beverage while reading or blogging, if any? Is it tea, coffee, water, a glass of wine, or something else?

My Answer:
LOL  All of the above.  It really depends on the time of day, the time of year and the mood I'm in and not on if I am reading and/or blogging.  I am the type of person that has something to drink nearby at all times and take sips throughout the day.  I have to have hot coffee in the morning year round, and during the warmer weather, will then switch to ice water and/or iced coffee and in the winter, a cup of tea, hot chocolate and/or ice water.

This week's twist:
"How do you spread the word about your blog?

(e.g. Social Networking sites, Book Blog Directories, comments on other blogs...)"
When I stumbled onto the world of book blogging, networking wasn't on my agenda.  I just wanted to join in on what looked like fun with memes and challenges.  And because of it and comments I left, other bloggers found me.  I am still amazed at how many followers/visitors that have been kind enough to join.  I, only just recently, added facebook and twitter and am still learning how to navigate those.

This week's twist:
When you write reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you have read the entire book?
My reviews are written as soon as I finish the book and before I start the next book.  Never know when those "senior moments" are going to kick in lol.  But while reading the book, I place a large lined post-it inside of the book's cover and will jot some notes/details that I think may be important and/or will help me with the review.  Because I am, and always was, a reading one book at a time person, it has carried over into writing my reviews.  What kind of reviewer are you?

Every single site that I have on my blog list.  Like our children, where you love them equally and never have a favorite, that's how I feel about the blogs I visit.

This week' twist:
Do you judge a book by its cover?
If it is a book by an author that I am a fan of.....then no.  But if not....yes...that is what draws me into picking it up and reading the synopsis.  For example....if it has a cover that depicts an image of historical, I will bypass that type.  So, overall, my answer is yes.

Today's Twist:
Do you use a rating system for your reviews and if so, what is it and why?
My Answer:
Yes.  I have a rating system, which can be seen on the left side of this blog, from 1-5.  I feel it is a cyberuniverse system with 5 being FANTASTIC.  Some sites require the a rating system so feel that I should post it across the board.  I think that the wording may be a little different from other bloggers, but the majority that use the 1-5 scale are typically the same rating.

My Answer:
Shelf?  More like a bookcase.  I have 22 books in my "tbr requested review" pile and for my "personal tbr shelves" it is too many.  And then there are quite a few in my EReader waiting to be read.  Since finding the book blogging/reviewing world my tbr lists have grown.  And because of that I have renamed my tbr list to "my tbr bucket list".
Have a great weekend and thank you for stopping by and visiting!!

Do you listen to music when you read? If so, what are your favorite reading tunes?
My Response:
No.  I find it distracting for some reason, which I really don't understand, because I always have the tv on.  I am a Cable News junkie and always have it on with the volume low in case there is breaking news.  On the weekends, hubby turns on music from when he gets up and I find that if I hear a song that I like, I can't focus on reading.

To answer the weekly question, my favorite new-to-me author is actually a debut author whose first novel I couldn't put down.  It was phenomenal!!!  And ironically, today I am hosting him as a "Guest Author" (see post 1 of 3) and the above post is an early exclusive!!!  The author is, Vincent Zandri, and if you like thrillers, than you are in for a treat when you read his books!!  I was introduced to him in May when I read and reviewed Moonlight Falls. (all links in Post #1) and have been a fan since.

My current read is Grace Under Mystery by Julie Hyzy.  I don't want to give too much away because I am almost done and will tell all in my review.  But I will say it is a cozy mystery that has me turning the pages in the suspense.  A really good cozy!!!

TODAY'S TWIST:
RIGHT THIS INSTANT, WHAT BOOK ARE YOU DYING TO GET YOUR HANDS ON (PAST, PRESENT, OR FUTURE)?
MY ANSWER:
I have quite a few in my TBR Review Pile that I am anxious to read, but can't because I have to honor my "Review Policy" whereas I read in order of receiving.  To be honest, I can't wait to read all of them (see right sidebar) but there are two that I am "DYING TO GET MY HANDS ON" and they are both "new" authors that I read their earlier books .

One is the manuscript for Titanic 2012 that was sent to me by the author, Bill Walker.  I read his earlier book back in February and loved it, A Note from an Old Acquaintance.  I am honored that he asked that I read his manuscript and give my honest opinion, even before it goes to press.

The second is also a "new" author, Vincent Zandri.  I read and reviewed his book,  Moonlight Falls, and it was like reading a Patterson book.  His newest, The Remains, is on bestseller lists already and getting rave reviews, but, again I have to wait and follow my "Review Policy" criteria.

Guess I will have to read faster so I can get to these 2 books.

Every day I seem to find another book blog that I start following. In the spirit of the Friday Follow, I thought it would be cool to do a Book Blog Hop to give us all bookies a chance to connect and find new blogs that we may be missing out on! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs that they may not know existed!
So, if you'd like to participate, just repost this on your blog, sign MckLinky on her site, and check out other blogs in MckLinky! Let's connect and make new book bloggy friends!! So, if you consider yourself a book blogger, come join the fun!
Pretty please - Your blog should have content related to books, including, but not limited to book reviews.

Today's Twist:
This week's question: Tell us about some of your favorite authors and why they are your favorites!
There are many authors that I try to read as many of their books that I can and a few would be:  James Patterson, Lisa Jackson and Karen Rose for well known authors.  The suspense grips you to the very last page.
Since I have been reviewing, I have had the opportunity to read many debut authors and there are 2 that, I think, are right up there.  Their books are from different genres and from reading the reviews across the blogosphere, I am not the only one who thinks that they are worth watching.  First, since I mentioned authors in the suspense/mystery genre, would be Vincent Zandri author of Moonlight Falls and his newest one that I can't wait to read, The Remains.  He is a blend of Patterson and Hitchcock.  Second, would be an author that I read and reviewed his debut back in Feb. and loved it.  A mixture of romance/suspense.  His writing style was such that you became so engrossed with the characters, their lives and transported to the setting in the plot.  All the makings for a great read.  He is Bill Walker, author of, A Note of An Old Acquaintance.  I found out yesterday, when visiting Bookventures Author's Chat that he is in the process of writing a sequel..can't wait.

The Hop is going to start having a CRAZY twist each week, to get to know each other a little better!
Each week, I will ask you a question that you will answer on your own blog hop post on your blog - just a way for us to interact and get to know one another! So, when you enter you blog link below, make sure YOU LINK DIRECTLY TO YOUR BLOG HOP POST for the week!!
Tell us your NAME and WHY YOU STARTED BLOGGING

(in your own blog hop post on your own blog - not in the linky below, please!!!)
Hi...my name is Cheryl.  After a time of stalking and learning about this book blogging world, that appeared to be so much fun, I wanted to be part of the neighborhood where there were so many people who wanted to talk about books.  I am not surrounded by readers in real life where I could discuss a great book I had read, but here in bloggy land, there are so many friends that understand the love of books.
