The Hachette Book Group and Mulholland Books Phenomenal Giveaway

The Hachette Book Group, Mulholland Books and the movie studio are working together for the upcoming release of THE LINCOLN LAWYER by Michael Connelly.

The movie stars Matthew McConaughey as Mickey Haller, Ryan Phillippe, Marisa Tomei, William H. Macy, Josh Lucas, John Leguizamo and more.

The giveaway starts today January 21st and ends February 8th!!

THE LINCOLN LAWYER
by MICHAEL CONNELLY

SYNOPSIS (borrowed from B&N):
New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly delivers his first legal thriller--an incendiary tale about a cynical defense attorney whose one remaining spark of integrity may cost him his life.
Mickey Haller has spent all his professional life afraid that he wouldn't recognize innocence if it stood right in front of him. But what he should have been on the watch for was evil.
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend the clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients.
From bikers to con artists to drunk drivers and drug dealers, they're all on Mickey Haller's client list. But when a Beverly Hills rich boy is arrested for brutally beating a woman, Haller has his first high-paying client in years. It's a franchise case and he's sure it will be a slam dunk in the courtroom. For once, he may be defending a client who is actually innocent.
But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face-to-face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame. To escape without being burned, Haller must use all of his skills to manipulate a system in which he no longer believes.

TICK TOCK by James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge
Published by Little, Brown and Company
ISBN 978-0-316--03791-4
At the request of The Hachette Book Group, an ARC TPB was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion.
Synopsis: (from back of book): NYC's #1 Detective, Michael Bennett, has a huge problem-the Son Of Sam, The Werewolf of Wisteria, and The Mad Bomber are all Back. The City ha never been more terrified!
Tick-A Killer's Countdown Begins
A rash of horrifying crimes rips through the city, throwing it into complete chaos and terrorizing everyone living there. Immediately it becomes clear that the are the work not of an amateur but of a calculating, efficient, and deadly mastermind.
Tick-Michael Bennett Is On The Chase
The city calls on Detective Michael Bennett, pulling him away from a seaside retreat with his ten adopted children, their beloved nanny, Mary Catherine, and his grandfather. Not only does it tear apart their vacation, it leaves the entire family open to attack.
Tock-Your Time Is Up
Bennett enlists the help of a former colleague, FBI agent Emily Parker. As his affection for Emily grows into something stronger, his relationship with Mary Catherine takes an unexpected turn. All too soon, another appalling crime leads Bennett to a shocking discovery that exposes the killer's pattern and the earth-shattering enormity of his plan.
My Thoughts and Opinion: If you are a fan of Mystery/Suspense, then I can sum this book up in 2 words and the majority of readers will know exactly what I mean. And those two words are James Patterson!!! Patterson is true to form, with his short chapters, the kind that I call "just one more chapter" reads and you have read 10. Cliff hanging chapters whereas you just have to continue reading. Suspense that takes your breath away like on a wild roller coaster ride with twists and turns. Two words!!! James Patterson!!!

Hachette Giveaway "The Science of Kissing" 12/29 to 01/12

THE SCIENCE OF KISSING
Photobucket
by SHERIL KIRSHENBAUM

December 29th to January 12th

SYNOPSIS:
What Our Lips Are Telling Us
From a noted science journalist comes a wonderfully witty and fascinating exploration of how and why we kiss.
When did humans begin to kiss? Why is kissing integral to some cultures and alien to others? Do good kissers make the best lovers? And is that expensive lip-plumping gloss worth it? Sheril Kirshenbaum, a biologist and science journalist, tackles these questions and more in THE SCIENCE OF KISSING. It's everything you always wanted to know about kissing but either haven't asked, couldn't find out, or didn't realize you should understand. The book is informed by the latest studies and theories, but Kirshenbaum's engaging voice gives the information a light touch. Topics range from the kind of kissing men like to do (as distinct from women) to what animals can teach us about the kiss to whether or not the true art of kissing was lost sometime in the Dark Ages. Drawing upon classical history, evolutionary biology, psychology, popular culture, and more, Kirshenbaum's winning book will appeal to romantics and armchair scientists alike.

Hachette Giveaway "The Imperial Cruise" 12/21/10 to 01/04/11

THE IMPERIAL CRUISE
Photobucket
by JAMES BRADLEY

December 21st to January 4th

SYNOPSIS:
The paperback edition of James Bradley's 2009 IMPERIAL CRUISE: A Secret History of Empire and War is now out! The hardcover edition has spent six weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, with 275,000 copies in print.
On the success of his two bestselling books about World War II, James Bradley began to wonder what the real catalyst was for the Pacific War.  What he discovered shocked him.
In 1905 President Teddy Roosevelt dispatched Secretary of War William Taft, his daughter Alice, and a gaggle of congressmen on a mission to Japan, the Philippines, China, and Korea with the intent of forging an agreement to divide up Asia. This clandestine pact lit the fuse that would-decades later-result in a number of devastating wars: WWII, the Korean War, and the communist revolution in China.
In 2005, James Bradley retraced that epic voyage and discovered the remarkable truth about America's vast imperial past. Full of fascinating characters brought brilliantly to life, The Imperial Cruise will powerfully revise the way we understand U.S. history.

Giveaway Sundays at Tiffany's 11/22 to 12/07

SUNDAYS AT TIFFANY'S
Photobucket
by JAMES PATTERSON and GABRIELLE CHARBONNET

November 22nd to December 7th

Synopsis:
AN IMAGINARY FRIEND
Jane Margaux is a lonely little girl. Her mother, the powerful head of a New York theater company, makes time for her only once a week, for their Sunday trip to admire jewelry at Tiffany's. Jane has only one friend: a handsome, comforting, funny man named Michael. He's perfect. But only she can see him. Michael can't stay forever, though. On Jane's eighth birthday he leaves, promising that she'll forget him soon. He was there to help her until she was old enough to manage on her own, and now there are other children who need his help.
AN UNEXPECTED LOVE
Years later, in her thirties, Jane is just as alone as she was as a child. And despite her own success as a playwright, she is even more trapped by her overbearing mother. Then she meets Michael again--as handsome, smart and perfect as she remembers him to be. But not even Michael knows the reason they've really been reunited.
AND AN UNFORGETTABLE TWIST
Sundays at Tiffany's is a heart-wrenching love story that surpasses all expectations of why these people have been brought together. With the breathtaking momentum and gripping emotional twists that have made James Patterson a bestseller all over the world, Sundays at Tiffany's takes an altogether fresh look at the timeless and transforming power of love.

Giveaway "Scorpions" 11/17 to 12/1 (posting 1 of 3)

SCORPIONS
The Battles and Triumphs of FDR's Great Supreme Court Justices
Photobucket
by NOAH FELDMAN

November 17th to December 1st

Synopsis:
A tiny, ebullient Jew who started as America's leading liberal and ended as its most famous judicial  conservative. A Klansman who became an absolutist advocate of free speech and civil rights. A back-country lawyer who started off trying cases about cows and went on to conduct the most important international trial ever. A self-invented, tall-tale Westerner who narrowly missed the presidency but expanded individual freedom beyond what anyone before had dreamed.
Four more different men could hardly be imagined. Yet they had certain things in common. Each was a self-made man who came from humble beginnings on the edge of poverty. Each had driving ambition and a will to succeed. Each was, in his own way, a genius.
They began as close allies and friends of FDR, but the quest to shape a new Constitution led them to competition and sometimes outright warfare. SCORPIONS tells the story of these four great justices: their relationship with Roosevelt, with each other, and with the turbulent world of the Great Depression, World War II, and the Cold War. It also serves as a history of the modern Constitution itself.

Giveaway "Dewey" 09/30/10 to 10/14/10 (posting 1 of 3)

DEWEY:
THE SMALL-TOWN LIBRARY
CAT WHO TOUCHED THE WORLD
Photobucket
by Vicki Myron and Bret Witter

September 30th to October 14th
(bring Dewey home for the holidays)

Synopsis (borrowed from Barnes & Noble):
How much of an impact can an animal have? How many lives can one cat touch? How is it possible for an abandoned kitten to transform a small library, save a classic American town, and eventually become famous around the world? You can't even begin to answer those questions until you hear the charming story of Dewey Readmore Books, the beloved library cat of Spencer, Iowa.
Dewey's story starts in the worst possible way. Only a few weeks old, on the coldest night of the year, he was stuffed into the returned book slot at the Spencer Public Library. He was found the next morning by library director, Vicki Myron, a single mother who had survived the loss of her family farm, a breast cancer scare, and an alcoholic husband. Dewey won her heart, and the hearts of the staff, by pulling himself up and hobbling on frostbitten feet to nudge each of them in a gesture of thanks and love. For the next nineteen years, he never stopped charming the people of Spencer with his enthusiasm, warmth, humility, (for a cat) and, above all, his sixth sense about who needed him most.
As his fame grew from town to town, then state to state, and finally, amazingly, worldwide, Dewey became more than just a friend; he became a source of pride for an extraordinary Heartland farming town pulling its way slowly back from the greatest crisis in its long history.

SYNOPSIS BORROWED FROM B&N:

It's the day after Labor Day, 2008, and the bottom is about the drop out of the economy. When he concocts a scheme to redeem himself, he enlists Lehman Brothers investment banker Blake Somerset as an accomplice. Blake is ripe for recruitment given that he too is on the verge of being in dire financial straits given Lehman's decline and imminent bankruptcy. Blake's socialite wife Grigsby is barely aware of her changing world to begin with, and has no idea of the perilous situation her husband is about to enter into. As autumn unfolds, Grigsby's fairytale life starts to unwind. Meanwhile, John and Blake's scheme comes to light when street-smart Renee Parker begins her new position as John's executive assistant. Convinced something is amiss, she enlists her friend Sasha Silver, CEO of Silver Partners, to help her decipher what is happening. Giveaway AH-CHOO by Jennifer Ackerman

AH-CHOO
Photobucket
by Jennifer Ackerman

August 12th to August 19th

About the book:
What do you know about the common cold? Probably a lot less than you think.
Some colds are like mice, timid and annoying; others like dragons, accompanied by body aches and deep misery. In AH-CHOO!, Jennifer Ackerman explains what, exactly, a cold is, how it works, and whether it's really possible to "fight one off." Scientists call this the Golden Age of the Common Cold because Americans suffer up to a billion colds each year, resulting in 40 million days of missed work and school and 100 million doctor visits. They've also learned over the past decade much more about what cold viruses are, what they do to the human body, and how symptoms can be addressed. In this ode to the odious cold, Ackerman sifts through the chatter about treatments-what works, what doesn't, and what can't hurt. She dispels myths, such as susceptibility to colds reflects a weakened immune system. And she tracks current research, including work at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, a world-renowned center of cold research studies, where the search for a cure continues.
