Review Never Let You Go by Erin Healy

Photobucket

Never Let You Go by Erin Healy
Published by Thomas Nelson, Inc.
ISBN978-1-59554-750-7
At the request of Phenix & Phenix, a PB copy was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion.
Synopsis (back of book): Losing everything has Lexi clinging to her daughter. Hell is determined to loosen her grip.
It's been seven years since disaster struck her family. Lexi Solomon has held it all together since then-just barely.
But now Lexi is losing it. The husband who deserted her is back in town, wanting to see their daughter Molly. Her sister's shameless murderer is up for parole. An unsavory old friend is demanding payment for debts that Lexi knows nothing about and can't begin to meet.
And something else is going on-something Lexi feels but can't explain. A dangerous shift is taking place between this reality and the next. Forces beyond her imagination are vying for control.
My Thoughts and Opinion: Unfortunately, I was unable to finish this book. I pushed my way through 150 pages and there was little that grabbed me. The characters were non relatable and the storyline dragged. What little suspense there was, it was slow paced and not what I am usually used to. I could tell from the pages that I did read, what the plot entailed. This may be a book that others might like, but for me, and this is my opinion only, I found it hard to get through and had to set it aside.

Review "Dare To Die" by Carolyn Hart

Photobucket
Dare To Die by Carolyn Hart
Published by Avon Mystery
ISBN 978-0-06-145305-2
At the request of Bestsellersworld, a PB copy was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion.
On the quaint island of Broward's Rock, a native daughter has returned after a ten (10) year absence. Riding a bike in the pouring rain with nothing but a duffel bag and a change of clothes, Iris Tilford arrives.  She has made this visit, not only to make amends of her past, but to also find the truth of what really happened all those years ago when a high school friend, Jocelyn Howard, died the night at The Pavilion for an sports awards night.  Did Jocelyn commit suicide, as so many have believed, or was it murder.
Annie and Max Darling, a couple loved by all is having a pre summer party for their friends at the same Pavilion ten years later but many, who have been hiding secrets for 10 years are not looking forward to the invitation.  Annie befriends Iris on her second day in Broward County and invites her to the get together.  Iris hopes that the party will somehow trigger a memory of that tragedy because at the time, Iris had a drug dependency that clouded her thinking, that she now has conquered.  Are the memories she has a true depiction of Jocelyn's last minutes or were the visions due to the drugs?
The night of the Darling's party, tragedy strikes again, Iris Tilford if found dead in the woods right off the path of the Pavilion.  All in attendance are now suspects. Annie and Max can't believe that any of their friends could be a murderer, until they start trying to put together the puzzle pieces of who killed Iris and who has just tried to kill them too.  Could it be Emma Clyde, the resident eccentric mystery writer who is having a writer's block and needs an idea for her next book?  Or maybe even Liz and Russell Montgomery who are very defensive and was one of the last two that saw Jocelyn before she died that tragic night so many years ago?  Or what about Fran and Buck Carlisle, Max knows he is lying but what about exactly?  Could it be Cara Wilkes, who after her failed marriage and loss of her young daughter has also returned to become a successful realtor, but there is evidence that belongs to her that was left at the scene of the Darlings' attempted murder?
And then another student from the same graduating class but not a member of the clique also turns up dead.
The reader will be able to visualize and know a community just like Broward's County through the vivid descriptions the writer conveys.  The exceptional writing by this author regarding this close knit circle of friends will pull the reader in to wanting and feeling like the characters are true life friends.  The suspense, at times, so intense, that the reader has to continue turning the page.  This was a truly enjoyable book of suspense and mystery.
Format at request of Bestsellersworld.

MONDAY

Hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading
Today's Question:
What do you think of books that receive a lot of hype? (think of the “Twilight” saga, or “Harry Potter”, or “The Da Vinci Code”). Do you read them? Why, or why not?
My Answer:
It would depend on what type of book it is and/or who the author is.  If it is a book that I have no interest in the storyline, no matter how much hype, I wouldn't have to think twice about not picking it up.

Slapdash Sunday (2 of 2)

SUNDAY

Photobucket

Photobucket
Hosted by Kayla at The Eclectic Element
Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week 'leftovers.' Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn't worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?

That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!
My blog roll is getting to be as long as my tbr bucket list.  So this week I attempted to do a little summer cleaning.  I clicked on each one to see when was the last time there had been a posting.  The easy ones were those I kept because they were up to date,  and those I deleted that hadn't had a post for months.  The ones I weren't sure of what to do with, were the ones in between.  So today, my questions are:
**How often do you do a blog roll cleaning?
**What criteria do you use when either keeping and/or deleting blogs?
**Do you find, and lately this has been happening to me, that there are so many blogs in my list/google reader, that they all seem to blend in together either due to similar names, same blog layout, etc. etc.  Is there a trick or tip that use on how to keep each one separate in your mind?  Is there a setting on blogger that I may be missing to put blogs in different categories like an example:  same genre,  memes, challeges, etc.?
Would love to hear from you !!!  How do you keep your blog roll up to date and functional?

About DNBRD

In December of 2009, Amanda Lanyon-LeSage said something on Facebook that could possibly change the world. She merely wished that she could take a day off and do nothing but read. Her idea was seconded–and thirded and fourthed–and then it happened for real.
The first Do Nothing But Read Day was held on Sunday, December 20, 2009.
In 2010, there will be two editions of Do Nothing But Read Day:
June 27 and December 19.

Award and Misc

SATURDAY

Photobucket

Photobucket

Its another warm day here in New England, and I'm not just talking about the weather.  Yesterday I got that warm, fuzzy feeling yet again, this time Rae from In The Forest Book Reviews, presented me with this award.
Photobucket
It amazes me every time, that to think, just a few months ago, I was wishing I could be a part of this blogging community.  And here, again, one of my blogging buddies thinks that my blog is worthy.  So thank you Rae.  I hope you don't mind but going to just slash the numbers a bit regarding the criteria in accepting.  The rules are:
So I guess what I need to do now is share seven five things about myself and pass this on to 15  5 blogs I have recently discovered. Hmmm...okay, here goes...
Warning, Warning (here comes the boring part)
  1.  I drink iced coffee year round
  2.  I am usually awake (especially in the summer) around 5:30am and love to listen to the noises outside my window.
  3.  Am not a "watch a movie" person.
  4.  I ask a lot of questions (lol as a few of you know) but believe that is a form of learning.
  5.  I so love being part of this book blogging community.
Now to the 5 blogs I have recently discovered (in no particular order):

My plans this beautiful Saturday,  is to be laid back and work on a few of my blogging to-do items.  Write some drafts, update a few things,  there is even a little bulb going on for creating a Saturday meme.. we will see if I can bring it together and then introduce it to you and get your feedback.
What are your plans for today?   Anything special?  Want to share?  Ok...I am off to present awards, get to my lists so that I can get to my reading.  Have a great day!!!!

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

My Question is:
My son recently went on vacation and had stories about the flight so I thought I would ask this:
On a plane do you prefer the aisle, middle or window seat?
My Answer:
I prefer the aisle or window seat but then so does hubby, so I get stuck in the middle every time.

Review and Giveaway Still Missing by Chevy Stevens

Still Missing by Chevy Stevens (ARC)
Published by St. Martin's Press
ISBN 978-0-312-59567-8
At the request of both St. Martin's Press and Librarything, an ARC was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion.
Synopsis (from book): On the day she was abducted, Annie O'Sullivan, a thirty-two-year-old realtor, had three goals-sell a house, forget about a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever-patient boyfriend. The Open house is slow, but when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she's about to leave, Annie thinks it just might be her lucky day after all.
But nothing could be further from the truth.
Through sessions with her psychiatrist, Annie retells the terrifying story of the year she spent captive in a remote mountain cabin. Interwoven is a second narrative recounting the aftermath of her escape and her struggle to piece her life back together.
The truth doesn't always set you free.
My Thoughts and Opinion: There is a buzz about this book around the blogosphere and now I know why. The following review is very generalized because I will not include any spoilers, which there were many throughout the novel. The author writes a phenomenal story, whereas she gets inside the head of Annie O'Sullivan and conveys those emotions to the reader. It was a true Stockholm Syndrome account, that at times, read as a non fiction. I must admit that I did think of Elizabeth Smart while reading this book and thinking that she might have lived through this same type of horrifying ordeal. The chapters are broken down to individual therapist's appointments where Annie relives and tells of a different incident that she dealt with. The plot was of a horrifying, "page turning", "can't put down" story that Annie lived through and her thought process to survive. At times, I found myself holding my breath, as the writer tells of different details that Annie had to deal with, both physical and emotional torture.. There were sub plots of Annie's life before, during, and after the abduction. And the relationships of those that she loved and trusted. The suspense was fast paced and palpable !!! The ending was an alarming, surprising and intense finale!!! This is one author to watch !!! I highly recommend this book be read.

THURSDAY

Today one of our fellow, or should I say gal. blogger is celebrating a milestone.  Julie over at Reading Without Restraint today turns the Big 40!!!!  So if you get a chance, stop by and wish her a Happy Birthday.  She is another nice book blogger, but then all book bloggers are the nicest people.  And she has a great site !!!!
Photobucket
Today's Question:
Do you read book reviews? Do you let them change your mind about reading/not reading a particular book?
My Answer:
Yes...Absolutely!! I read the reviews of books that look interesting to me, the genres I like, and authors that I enjoy.  I have been surprised at times when a blogger, who appears to have the same likes as me, will write a soso of an author I like.  Prior to blogging, I would have put that on my tbr list no matter what.  But today, books go on my tbr depending on the reviews.  Only drawback I have found with reading reviews, is that my tbr list is now what I call my "tbr bucket list".  At my age, and with the list I have going, I know that there is no way I will read all those books.  :(

Summer Reading Challenge

Have you heard??  Julie from My Book Retreat is hosting a Summer Reading Challenge.  I remember that I was probably the only kid who looked forward to Summer Reading when I was in school a few, many, many many, ok...in the days when the only transportation to school was one's feet  lol.  So I had to join in.  How about you?  Criteria from Julie's blog and link provided below along with my list of books.

Write a wrap-up post at the end of summer to report on your results.
Come back here on September 21st to link your wrap-up post to the Linky I'll post that day.
If you're joining this Summer Reading Challenge, I encourage you to visit other participants to see what they’re reading. You may find some new books to add to your own TBR list. If you think you'd like to participate, leave a comment below so I can get an idea of how many people might want to join. Today's question is an easy one.  My 1st choice, and as been for years, is the genre of Mystery/Suspense.  Those books keep me engaged and love to try and solve the mystery.  Maybe I was a PI in another life lol.  The 2nd would be Contemporary Chick Lit/Romance.  These you will find on my shelves and tbr list.
