MONDAY

Hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading
This week's question:
Do you like movies made from books? Which ones do you think have been done well — kept mostly to the plot of the book, etc?

My answer:
I am not a TV/movie person but I have in the past seen a couple of movies after I have read the books, and quite honestly, have been quite disappointed.  The visual creations that I created, I feel were much better.  The adaptations just weren't as good as the book.  So, instead of sitting and watching a movie, I would much rather spend the time reading.

Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia of A girl and her books and is now on tour.
According to Marcia, “Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.”

It's rare for me to find a movie that is better than the book. I much prefer the book.

Me too, I'd much rather read the book than watch the movie.

There are a few movies that I felt were better than the books, not many but a few. HOW TO MAKE AN AMERICAN QUILT for one. Such a lovely movie and THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB, another one.

Enjoy your new books!

I think in almost every case, the book is better than the movie. Really, a book can just say so much more.

I tend to agree with you, but I do enjoy films and I like to see how books are interpreted. I think the Coen brothers do a good job with interpretation. When the author writes the screenplay I think it also makes a big difference as with James Dickey's Deliverance.

The movie generally isn't as good as the book, but I still enjoy some of the movies. The Upright Piano Player looks good!

I always think the books are better than the movies. I always try to read the books before I watch the movies. Although I have to agree with Kay, the movie of "The Jane Austen Book Club" was so much better than the book. I really didn't care for the book at all.

Hi Cheryl, hope all is better in your world especially with your Mom. Books are always better than the movie in my opinion anyway. The only exception I can think of is Cider House Rules. Book felt endless - movie was really good.
