Guest Author Kelly Moss

Rebecca from The Cadence Group contacted me last month asking if I would be interested in reviewing a book and hosting a showcase of it's author.  It is at the opposite end of the spectrum of what I usually read but I thought it would be fun.  It was!!!  So please help me welcome author, Kelly Moss!!!

Through this book, Kelly desires to give other parents the solution to the old age problem of a child asking, Is Santa Real.  When not writing Kelly is CEO of JoeBro Records and a national speaker on the “Gift of Giving”, “How to be a stage parent your child can be proud of”, and “How to find an agent without getting taken.”  In 1996 she started the Connecticut Chasers, which won the Best New Program for the Connecticut Down Syndrome Congress. GUEST POST
Why I wrote the Santa Club. By Kelly Moss
The Santa Club Book was one of those books that started with a great need to pass information on. My mother‐in‐law gave me the beginnings of the book when my first son asked the question, Is Santa Real. Not long ago, before she passed, I asked her if she remembered that day. She had the beginnings of Alzheimer’s and said, “No, I don’t really. But I do remember Jonathan was so young.” What we hope someday will become an amazing gift to families worldwide, yes I think big, was just a part of her loving history. I had always wanted to recreate that moment she explained Santa in a book that could be shared by others. Our family had such an amazing Christmas that year. Jonathan stayed up and put out all his brother’s presents with such a sense of purpose. He wanted so much to be a great giver, a great Santa. The following year Jameson asked, “Mom, Is Santa Real”, and Jonathan stepped in to answer. The tradition had been passed down and I was a witness to my kids learning such an important part of living, giving.

Since that day so long ago, the whole goal as the author of The Santa Club has been to pass this amazing story on. I wanted this book to help families with this moment in their children’s life. There were some things I knew had to be a part of the book. The responsibilities, Bertie gave us and they had to be there. Reading with a parent, or guardian, I knew as a parent, was a moment in our kid’s life we would cherish. Certain times early on in our children’s lives can make or break how your kids interact with you in the future. Sitting with your child and sharing the story of The Santa Club is one of those moments that create a bond with your child. They trust you, believe you, and as they say, the truth shall set you free. It was imperative that a child have that moment with an adult who loved them. The certificate, another parent and child moment that could be shared for years to come. I knew that had to be in. Even today I wish I could look back at a certificate and see when that moment was. Jonathan was very young to ask, about six. The average age is eight. For parents like me, whose children are now young adults; we understand just how young these kids are. Just how sweet and vulnerable they can be.

I know as a mom if I had The Santa Club I would pull it out 20, 30 years and beyond to remind my kids of that day. To remember that Christmas is so much more than just getting the next gift. Thanks Cmash for letting me share. Merry Christmas Everyone, Kelly Moss

My complete review here.

My Thoughts and Opinion:  To those that follow this blog, you know that this is not the type of book that I would usually accept to review, however, when I was approached, I thought it would be different and fun.  When my boys were young, reading was an important integral of their upbringing.  From when they were infants, reading before bedtime was a nighttime ritual.  Books also played an important part during different milestones in their lives, such as bringing home a baby brother, potty training, starting school, and unfortunately, even loss.

Since it has been many years that I have read a children's book, it was like a new experience for me.  The premise of the book is to help parents answer that hard question, Is Santa Real? Not only does it answer the question in a way that a child can understand but it also allows the child to feel special when the answer is revealed.  What also impressed me, which I am sure that some will disagree with me, is that it also explains the true meaning of Christmas.  At first, I was a bit unsure of the illustrations but the more I looked at them I could see the diversity the author was conveying to the parent and child.  I forgot to mention, this book states that a child must only read this book with a parent or guardian.  If you are a parent, grandparent or know someone with little ones, this should be in every household, tucked away for the day when that question is asked, Is Santa real?.  Highly recommend

  My Rating:  4
