Counting down for 2010 !!!!!!! I would like to wish all a very Happy and Healthy New Year !!!! My New Year's resolutions are to meet more book bloggers....they are definitely the nicest people ever, less TV, more reading, and to try and finish all the challenges I have signed up for. I probably should add more to the list but I know I would definitely break them within a few days. So cutting out ice cream sundaes will stay on the menu (lol) Happy Reading in 2010
TaDa.................
The new look of my blog has now been unveiled. THANK YOU Casey at Hot Bliggity Blog. We have been.....no....I should say she has been working hard....over the past few days to get the new images, designs and navigation tools in place. I am thrilled with the outcome and hope that all those who visit will like the new and improved look.

Today's Question:
It’s the last day of the year, and you know what that means … nostalgia and looking back.
What were your favorite books of the year? (Books that were new to you in 2009, if not necessarily published this year.)
My answer....I read a lot of good books this year but "The Left Behind Series" has got be be my all time favorite. My family was thrilled when I finished all 13 books because every single spare second that I had, the books would be in my hands. I would become so engrossed in the reading of each book to the point where I would lose track of time and forget about feeding them (lol)

December 30, 2009
As 2009 comes to a close and a new year is around the corner, I have been reflecting on this year. My family has had to deal with a lot of tough issues, that is life and what is important is how we deal with and learn from them but with the help from above we have made it through. I am closing that chapter and keeping the chapters that were the good ones in 2009. My oldest son getting a fantastic job in his field, my youngest son moving (even though that was a little hard on me) out of state where his heart has taken him. I am very thankful for the love that our family and friends embraced us with during the trying times, being lucky enough to have them in our lives. And for me, stumbling onto a book blog. To all the new friends I have made that have the same level for the love of books and who I can discuss and share with. So many of you to thank...where I would visit, read the posts and admire your blogs but not know about following. For giving me the incentive to try and create a page as my "personal journal" and then taking it to a level that has amazed me. Special thanks to those of you for encouraging me, being patient and helpful when I had blog/computer questions and who gave me the courage to be put on the "requested reviews" list. Thank you ( in no particular order) Vicki from Reading At The Beach, Lori from Lori's Reading Corner, J.Kaye at J.Kaye's Book Blog and Karen at Bookin' With Bingo. And special thanks to those who have joined on as followers of my blog. I will always post with you in mind so that you will visit often. And to 2010, my goals are meeting more nice people, coming close and maybe even hitting the 100+ challenge and to where ever this blog takes me. Thank you all.

Talk & Thoughts
I am getting excited and counting down for the 2010 challenges to begin. As a newbie in book blogging and loving every minute of it, this will be my first year for challenges and know that it won't be my last. Is everyone else looking forward to the challenges this year? Which ones have you signed up for? Also since this will be a new year my blog is going to get updated too. I am learning so much and since my blog as reached levels that I didn't dream it would when I started my "personal journal", there are items I feel it needed. I hope you all will like the new look and features.....Stay tuned.....

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
*Grab your current read
*Open to a random page
*Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
*BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
*Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Here is mine:
No one had said a word when fifteen years had passed, but now, on the eve of the closure of St. Elizabeth's, the class of '86 was going to meet one more time.
For some, it would be the last.

Crossing The Bridge by Michael Baron (Rating--5)
Publisher: The Story Plant
ISBN-13: 978-0-9819568-1-7
At the request of the publisher, a PB copy was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest review.
Synopsis: Hugh Penders returns to his home in Amber, CT a small town in New England, after 10 years of working various jobs in multiple locations never putting down roots or truly knowing what it is he wants to do. He returns home to work in the family store after his father suffers a heart attack. He plans on staying only long enough for his Dad to get on his feet. Amber holds too many painful memories of his brother Chase, who died August 10th at the age of 18, ten years ago when his car went off Pine River Bridge. He has held a secret within since that fateful day.
My thoughts: This novel was not my usual read as I tend to gravitate toward fast paced mystery/suspense. However, I was drawn in by the first chapter. This novel is a love story that tugs on your heart from page one. The characters came to life to the point I didn't want the story to end. The turmoil of Hugh's emotions of grief, love, confusion, loyalty and pain were felt with the writer's sensitive words.
My Opinion and Rating: This was not your typical love story. It was a love story on many levels some being between friends, parents and children, siblings, and mates. The characters took on a real life quality whereas they could have been my family and friends. Being from New England myself, the descriptions of Amber could have been that of where I live. I highly recommend this warm and touching love story and have rated it a Level 5. I will be reading Mr. Baron's 1st novel "When You Went Away" ASAP and will be anxiously awaiting his next book "The Journey Home" due out May 11, 2010.

Talk & Thoughts
Today I plan to relax and read after I post. Am apologizing in advance for rambling but have a bit to say today and to thank someone very special.
Yesterday I asked other bloggers if the enjoyment I am feeling regarding this new found world of blogging lasts or is it because it is a new hobby. I heard from some bloggers that it does, thank you to those who commented. I am so glad to hear that it will last!!
This weekend here in New England it has been raining and certain weather conditions affect my back. I am disabled due to severe chronic spinal pain, as a result of 3 prior back fusion surgeries that included internal plates and screws. Some days the pain is paralyzing and just doing minor household chores is difficult. Next week I have an appt to see if I am a candidate for a nerve stimulator implant. Even though this is a 2 part surgical procedure, if it decreases the pain even 25% I will be happy. This new hobby has helped me on those days where the pain is excruciating. Reading was always an escape and now finding blogs and the people associated with the blogs has helped me in ways that are even surprising to me. Thank you !!!
AND a special THANK YOU to my son Mark. I have stated that I am computer challenged and there were certain items that I wanted on my sidebar for the upcoming 2010 challenges that I am so excited about!! For weeks I have been trying to figure out how to create these features. Mark is "home" for the holidays and yesterday within 30 minutes he generated the code and added it. Also if you see any changes to my page in the future, it will be Mark's doing. He wants to change some things...not sure what he means...so there is a chance that some morning I will boot up and be surprised. He will be leaving this coming weekend to go to his home in PA. So to my baby, THANK YOU for having the patience to help me and for being a great son. I LOVE YOU !!!

Talk & Thoughts
Hope everyone survived the holidays. It is definitely going to be a relaxing and reading weekend here. Except for that dirty word we all have to deal with...laundry...wish Santa had taken care of that for me lol. I am also going to try and tweak my site for the upcoming 2010 challenges. I am SO excited and looking forward to this year because of all the challenges I have signed up for.
I was wondering about other bloggers.....is your blog theraputic for you as it is for me? I wake every morning looking forward to reading my newsletters, checking my blog and then visiting my favorite blogs. Also wondering if after time that the enjoyment continues at the level I am feeling at this time? I sure hope so.
Have a great weekend !!!

2. Wondering what will be the trial of this century.
3. Imitation is the best form of flattery.
4. How about a cup of coffee and talk?
5. I'd like to be on a plane headed for Aruba.
6. Just get over it?
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing, tomorrow my plans include relaxing and reading and Sunday, I want to do the same as Saturday!

BOOK REVIEWS
Illusion (A Novella) by Edmond Cheng (Rating 3.5)
MS Fiction Presents "Unearthed" An Anthololgy of Suspense
ISSN 1555 Vol. 109-22ED
At the request of the author, a PDF copy was sent at no cost to me for my honest review.
Synopsis: Thomas Chen is visited by his longtime friend Jonathan's mother who delivers a warning about Jonathan But how can that be since she passed away 2 months ago. Visions and severe headaches are plaguing Thomas' brain. Could these visions be the result of demons, or maybe physical and/or psychological in nature.
Synopsis: Was skeptical at first but as I continued reading I found myself wanting to read more. The author's detailed written words allowed this reader to form graphically vivid thoughts. The plot was suspenseful and held my attention to the end. However, I felt that the dialogue between characters were simplistic.
My Rating: 3.5 I gave this rating due to the dialogue and at times somewhat confusing at what the author was trying to convey. However, the suspense and detailed words were very enjoyable. This is a new author but this reader feels that with more writing experience, this will not be his last book.

OK...I need to get off this computer.....I just found another great book blog site with a fantastic challenge that I had to sign up for. The site is So Many Precious Books, So Little Time. It consists of reading books that a person has won from other sites. I am guilty...I have those on my shelves and since it can be a crossover, I have signed up for the Bronze Level 4-6 books. If this challenge is for you...head on over to that site. Email is http://teddyrose.blogspot.com

Almost Dead by Lisa Jackson (Rating 5)
Ebook purchased by me
Cissy Cahill Holt's life is in chaos. She is a single parent of a toddler, is in the process of a divorce and her mother, who she never had a great relationship with, has escaped from prison. Cissy maintains a tolerable relationship with her grandmother, the matriach of the Cahill fortune, until Cissy finds her murdered. As the police try and locate her mother, more members of her family are turning up dead.
This book was a white knuckle, fast paced, can't put down read with chapters that at times had me gasping in surprise. Am definitely looking forward to reading another Lisa Jackson book.

Off to wrapping presents and then reading and finishing my current read. But first...was thinking... I have met my 3 personal challenges, getting my site up and running, joining in and entering reading challenges for 2010 and accepting requests for reviews. For 2010 I am going to follow in J.Kaye's foot steps of J.Kaye's Book Blog. That being, more reading and less computer, so I have signed up for 2 more challenges. Have entered RYOB for 10 books and Royal Reviews Romance challenge at the Curious Level of 3 books. I better make sure that I have spare reading glasses on hand lol.
Thank you
As some of you know, I am still learning all about book blogging and my webpage. I stumbled onto a great site. Sai, over at Bloggerstop.net has helped me tremendously and with great patience. Grab this button, located on the left sidebar or visit with this link......http://bloggerstop.net...for any and all questions regarding computer issues. And again, THANK YOU Sai.

Musing Mondays
When you buy books, do they immediately go onto your bookshelf to wait until you’re ready to read them (even if that means months/years from then!), or do you read them right away? What makes you do this? If you’re a ’shelver’, why do you think you don’t read the books right away? Do you ever feel guilty for letting the books sit there, unread? If you’re a ‘read-em-now’ person, why do you feel they have to be read right away? Do you give away the books when you’re done, too?
It depends...but the majority of time they go onto my bookshelf to read "later". I am doing the same with my ereader. I buy several titles and I think I do this so when I finish my current read I have a selection to choose from depending on my mood. I will confess...there are still some on my shelves from years ago...guess I just haven't been in the mood for those lol. Happy Reading all

Talk & Thoughts
It is still snowing here in New England...some areas with over a foot of snow and drifts even higher. I am not a snow person but today I don't even care....my very considerate and loving hubby received a call last night that my laptop was ready and knowing the forecast for today, he went to pick it up around 10pm. Will be spending quality time today with "Lily Laptop"...named after one of my favorite flowers the Stargazer Lily. It is going to take me time to get all my settings back. And seeing that I am not computer savvy, Lily and I will be spending a lot of time over the next couple of days. Have a great Sunday and be careful on the roads for those who are getting their shopping done.

Talk & Thoughts
OK...patience is definitely wearing thin....it is noon and no call from the "Geek Squad". I am publicly apologizing to my laptop for the names I called it when it would freeze or kick me off. LOL Please come home. I am crossing my fingers that maybe there is some hope that I will get the call before the "blizzard" predicted starts. Until then...I will be "Relaxing and Reading" in between laundry. And for those who are also in the path of this blizzard and/or on the road finishing Christmas shopping....PLEASE be careful.
December 18, 2009
Talk & Thoughts
OK....I think that I have been more than patient with leaving my laptop with the "Geek Squad" last weekend and have been told that it will be ready later tonight or tomorrow, I realize I am having separation anxiety with my computer. Knowing now how important it is to me, how did we live pre internet time, that I should name my bff. So I am open to suggestions from my blogger friends what I should call/name it when I finally have it back. Here in New England, we are under a blizzard watch for this weekend (weather like what is predicted increases the pain in my back) and since my shopping is done, I plan on the usual....Relax and Read. But I also plan on spending quality time with my friend...my laptop. Tweaking my site or maybe even finding a new template for the new year. Am hoping that everyone has a great weekend...try to relax and read lol...yea...right...the weekend before Christmas and if you get a chance, help me name my laptop for it's homecoming.

Going to continue with a holiday theme.
Any favorite holiday ornament on tree?
We have collected a dated and different Hallmark collectible ornament for every year that we have been married. My 2 favorite ones are for the years of my 2 sons' birth. As of this year we have 28. When my boys get married I plan to start their collection.

Lost Souls by Lisa Jackson Rating 3.5
EBook purchased by me
Kristi Bentz returns to her alma mater, All Saints, where 4 students have gone missing. Police feel that they are runaways. Kristi starts investigating what happens especially when she learns that the apartment she has rented was leased by Tara, one of the missing. There is one connection...all were taking the same English courses at the college, which now Kristi is enrolled in. She teams up with her ex bf because of his crime lab experience. Then the girls are found dead and Kristi learns that there is a cult on campus.
My opinion: At times it was a good read but when it came to the vampire plot I felt it was unrealistic. It could be that I am just not interested in books of that nature.

Unfortunately I won't be posting much for the next couple of days :(. I joked about having my fingers crossed with Bookin' With Bingo's giveaway and then my computer crashed. My laptop is being diagnosed by "The Geek Squad" and hopefully will get it back ASAP. I am borrowing hubby's computer for emails and checking web page, but since everything else (programs, saved blog info, etc) is on my laptop, posting is difficult. I hope I can join in for the memes this week. My personal meme for Relax and Read weekend, I am accomplishing due to technical difficulties. Have a good Sunday and relax!!!

If you are a lover of suspense reads then this giveaway is for you too. You can link there from this post or grab her button on my left sidebar. Keeping fingers crossed on winning these. So I might not be posting much because it is tough typing with fingers crossed lol.

Taking the plunge...what I consider the biggest challenge !!!! I have been spending more time on the computer working on my blog page than actually reading. This challenge hosted by J. Kaye (will put the link up later this afternoon) is for 2010 100+ books. I will be happy if I even get close to that number but am going to be reading more and remodeling my page less. GLA who entered, especially me LOL.

Once again !!!!!
Somebody asked me today "How are you keeping your sanity with everything you are going through and all the problems that you are facing?" My answer was genuine, truthful and simple....the world of books, blogging and the very nice people I have met via the computer. OK.....When I created my page, which was a tiny miracle in itself, it was just going to be a way to track the books I had read. I then challenged myself to enter a reading challenge for 2010. Didn't even know what a meme was but I was determined to find out and have joined a meme for everyday...except Thursday but I know I will find one hopefully before this Thursday. I can't believe how much I am enjoying this and how it is helping me to deal with what I am going through. So getting back to this posting.....Over the next couple of days, it will probably take that long due to my ineptness of technology, I will be remodeling my page. Nothing major but I want it more organized for me because I plan on adding more challenges and memes. Giving another shout out for any suggestions for a Thursday meme, how and what is a permalink, how to get the percentage bar from NaNoWriMo to work and/or another site where I can find one. And maybe, just maybe, my blog will be more than a personal journal in the future.

Teaser Tuesdays
*Grab your current read
*Open to a random page
*Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
*BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
*Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Here's mine:
"I'm not going to lose my key".
"It's for your protection".
"If you say so." She wasn't counting on it.

Talk & Thoughts
Joined in today for my first meme !!!!! Have decided that I will be continuing the Relax and Read Weekend. Feel free to join me!!!!. Now just need suggestions for memes on Wed. & Thursday and the week will be filled. This new world of blogging is helping me more than one knows. Today the back pain is intolerable but am coping due to my new hobby and reading, which I will be getting back to after this post. I am currently reading Lost Souls by Lisa Jackson which is a Challenge I entered via J.Kaye's Book Blog.
Any help with the NaNoWriMo meter would be greatly appreciated. Having trouble getting it to work and show the % of books read. I have seen this meter on many blogs and would really like to see my progress show especially since I am planning on adding many more challenges

Musing Mondays
Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about library etiquette…
It amazes me how parents allow their children to run around, laughing and talking loudly. But then so do the parents so I guess I shouldn't be surprised since the parents should be setting an example at an early age. When my boys were small we would be at the library 2-3 times a week. Especially before they started school and our local library had activites for the preschoolers. They knew that we had to use our "library voices" so not to disturb other patrons who were reading and/or studying. It must have made an impression on my boys because while in college, one came home from the library and complained how he couldn't study because of the rudeness of others.

Talk & Thoughts
Keeping my fingers crossed. Just entered for a giveaway over at J. Kaye's blog(http://j-kaye-book-blog.blogspot.com) for Dying Scream by Mary Burton. I have read some great reviews on this one and it is on my TBR list. J. Kaye has a lot of books for giveaways this month.
Thinking I also have found memes for Mondays and Tuesdays...am open to suggestion for the other days. Off to relaxing and reading. Have a good night all.

Talk & Thoughts
Confession...I had good intentions to relax and read this weekend. However, I needed to do those dreaded (lol) things in life...laundry, groceries, minor chores. BUT when I was done I treated myself to do the things I enjoy....purchase and d/l the books I bought. I also visited some of my favorite blogs and found new ones that are now on my blog list. I also entered in another challenge for 2010 which Royal Reviews is hosting (http://theroyalreviews.blogspot.com) and entered my 1st meme which An Island Life (http://islandlife808.com) hosts...Aloha Friday. My new self challenge is to find memes for each day. Suggestions are welcomed as I am on the prowl for finding them.
My mantra is "everything happens for a reason". Since stumbling on the world of blogging, I have met some very kind and friendly people. Life has its up and downs and even some very difficult obstacles that we all have to deal with and overcome. I would like to publicly and sincerely say Thank You to all those on my blog list as I am so enjoying this new world of blogging. It is definitely helping me deal with life's challenges that I am facing and dealing with. Again...THANK YOU

BOOK REVIEWS
Locked In by Marcia Muller Rating 5+
From the cover jacket...Sudden flash, loud pop. Rush of pain. OMG, I've been shot--Nothing.
This reader was hooked before page 1. Sharon McCone, PI has been shot in the head and there is damage. A brain injury of being Locked In (a real medical injury) In a coma for 11 days after being shot. Slowly she comes out of the coma BUT she realizes she can't move, can't communicate but hears everything. This reader felt the terror, fright and trauma of being Locked In from the author's words. Then those around McCone realize she does hear and the only way she can communicate is by blinking her eyelids..once for yes, two for no. She doesn't remember all the details of being shot but what she does remember she can't communicate. Once again, this reader could feel McCone's fustration and the terror of her prognosis of being Locked In. Her employees try to find the shooter. This was a nail biter down to the last page. Mysteries within Mystery. I have never read any of her books but am now a fan and will be reading her past and future novels. This book was exceptional for those who like suspense.

Where have I been? lol I won Locked In by Marcia Muller and is my current read. So far this has all the qualities that I love in a book. Page turning story line, short chapters and come to life characters. This is the first time reading and/or hearing of this author. If this continues, as I am 1/2 done, I will have to d/l to my ereader her prior books. I have a doctor's appt. today and for the first time am hoping she is running late so I can read. Will give rating and full review when I finish reading it.
Also, thank you new followers for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed my blog!

Computer still acting up :( But wanted to welcome any new comers to my blog. I have stumbled on to many nice blogs and have met even nicer people. One being Vicki at Reading At The Beach that I have mentioned before. Yesterday I awarded her with "The Beautiful Heart" award for having an inspirational blog site and overall an inspirational person. I felt that she was so deserving of this for all the help she has given me. And to my surprise...this morning I started my daily routine.....boot up my computer, grab a cup of coffee and read all my book blog newsletters, and there is a public thank you from Vicki and sending readers my way. As I am a newbie, any suggestions will be accepted lol. And thank you for stopping by.
