My question is:  What is your favorite flower?
I have Star Gazer Lily(s) in my garden.  Beautiful to look at and they are so aromatic.  I love that Yankee Candle has that fragrence so I enjoy it year round.  I even named my laptop (lol) Lily.

Booking Thru Thursday hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading

Today's question:
What books did you get for Christmas (or whichever holiday you may have celebrated last month)?
Do you usually ask for books on gift-giving occasions or do you prefer to buy them yourself?

My answer:
Unfortunately, there is only one book lover other than myself, in my family. So they would have no clue what to get me or even where there is a book store LOL. My one book buddy in the family is Jess, my son's gf, but they live 5 hours away. And this Christmas she gave me a GC to the Sony EReader store so I can pick out what books I want.

My Photobucket Journey:

This will now be n occasional posting by me and mainly for me. Being a retired "RN" and facing a very complex surgical and frightening 4th operation I felt that writing down my thoughts and emotions as I face this process will help.
I now, once again, sit and wait. I have an appointment with a surgeon who supposedly only does complicated spinal surgeries. I will be seeing him on Jan 27th. I am very ambivilent about this appointment...I hope he can help me but on the other hand I am terrified to go through another fusion. Will he be able to get through 20 yrs of scar tissue without causing major complications such as paralysis, which is a great fear....but again on the other hand, I can't live a good quality of life in the level and severity of pain I have on a daily basis. Book blogging and reading has helped me tremendously...it doesn't take away the pain but it helps pass the time on days where the pain is excruciating.
I apologize for adding this new post to my blog but want to chronicle this new jouney that I am on.

This was my very first ever challenge that I signed up for. Not knowing much about challenges, I only entered for 5 books (lol) because I wanted to make sure I would be able to meet the challenge. I definitely met the challenge and its only January. So I am reentering for another 5 LJ books. She is an awesome author. And I keep adding to my LJ TBR list after reading J.Kaye's reviews. So I am thinking that in between the requests for reviews, I will read another Lisa Jackson book for personal enjoyment. Sounds like a plan to me. Thank you J.Kaye for starting the process for me to becoming a challenge addict (lol).

I am so excited !!!! After the results I received from the doctor on Monday, yes I was very disappointed, and I know that any physical activity will be very limited until I find a doctor that will be capable to perform surgery of a complicated nature, I have to find a positive in all of this and I have found it. What is the saying about having lemons...make lemonade? Well I did just that. Knowing now that I will have more time to read, I applied to some publishers to check out this blog and see if I could and/or would be considered for reviews. And I was accepted into the communities of two (2) publishers !!!! Thank you Miriam from "Hachette Books" and Imran and Tricia from "The Book Trib". If you look deep and search there is always a positive to every situation. The Lord may shut one door but another will open. I am looking forward to receiving and reading their books and working with them.

I started this blog as a "personal journal" of books read.  Due to all I have learned and adding my name to J.Kaye's Book Blog,  referral list and entering challenges and memes, my blog has been taken to a higher level.

I will be facing some hurdles in the near future.  So I have decided that I will be jotting my thoughts and emotions as I go through this.  I am sorry to bore anyone who reads this but I feel it will be theraputic for me.
I have had 3 back operations due to the original injury in 1979 when I ruptured a disc due to lifting a patient.  By profession I was an RN but have been disabled for 10 years.  My 2nd back operation was a fusion as I was told that I would not be able to carry a child during pregnancy.  So..fusion it was and spent 2 months in a body cast (from knees to neck) but it was worth it.  I have 2 beautiful sons.  But the toll on my back from the pregnacies did more damage and needed a 3rd fusion.  I was lucky to have a top notch doc (he taught internationally and has written books about spines) who asked permission to try a new procedure on me if the damage was extensive, which it was.  I was the 3rd patient to have this surgery and put into a study group.  Twenty-three years later.....and the years have deteriorated more discs causing excruciating pain.  After seeing 2 neurosurgeons, they recommened 3 options, starting with the least invasive and least risky.
So yesterday hubby and I drove out of state to see the doc Photobucket for implantation of a nerve stimulator.  He informed me that I am not a candidate for either the nerve stimulator or the next option, implantation of a morphine pump.  I have to respect him because he could have just done the surgery and collected the $$$.  But he was honest and I knew deep down (especially since seeing all the CT scans, etc) what I needed and what was wrong,  sometimes it just sucks being a nurse because you know the truth.  So I am waiting for an appt. to speak to a surgeon for the procedure of another fusion.  But after 20+ yrs of scar tissue growing around the plates/screws located in my back, it will be a very complicated, extensive and even risky operation.  I have a lot to think about before I make this huge decision.   So since I am unable to do even minor daily chores this blog, reading, my family, friends, and now my new blogger friends, will be my sanity and getting me through this.  Sorry for rambling and that I will be posting on this journey I am faced with. Thank you for your time if you read this.  Now that I got all that off my chest, I will go back to my fun things...and be posting about Teaser Tuesdays.

Mail delivered and no books :( So I have decided to read Vanished by Joseph Finder, which I won from The Book Trib and will go towards a few of the challenges I have signed up for.

Talking of challenges....I posted my first book for 2010.....and since there are overlaps to many...was wondering how you experienced book bloggers keep track of all your challenges, when do you do wrap ups, am I supposed to post a link for my review on the host's page? Any suggestions and/or help would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

I am quite anxious today. In a little while I will be leaving to drive to a doctor's appointment in the next state. I will, hopefully, find out if I am a candidate for an implantation of a spinal cord nerve stimulator. Even though this is a 2 part operation, it is the least risky of 3 procedures suggested to me by neurosurgeons.

Happy Monday Reading all.....

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about New Year reading.

With the New Year here already, do you have any reading resolutions or goals (challenges aside) for 2010? Perhaps a new author? Genre? Want to read more non-fiction? Write more reviews?
My Answer:
Since I did sign up for the big challenge of 100+ books, my plans for 2010 is definitely read more, less time on the computer and less TV watching.  My TV is usually on even if I am readng.  I find that I can't read if it is totally quiet so I have on one of the cable News channels with the volume low and will only watch and pay attention if it is a "Breaking News Alert".

Most Likely To Die by Lisa Jackson, Wendy Corsi Staub, Beverly Barton (Rating 5)
EBook purchased by me
Twenty years ago at the Valentine's Dance hosted by an all female small high school, St. Elizabeth's there was a gruesome murder which was never solved. Since the school will be leveled, a small committee of alumnae are planning for their 20 yr reunion  even though they have never resolved their feelings of that night so long ago but then one by one they are dying, is it an accident or is it personal.
My Opinion:  Once again, Lisa Jackson delivers another fast paced, can't put down, keep you guessing read.  I originally signed up for 5 books for the Lisa Jackson challenge hosted by J.Kaye Book Blog, and this was my 5th book, I will be reading more of her books because they are enjoyable and are the type of books that I like to read.  If you haven't read her books and like suspense, this is an author you should read and maybe even sign up for the challenge.

Today's Question:
It’s the last day of the year, and you know what that means … nostalgia and looking back.

What were your favorite books of the year? (Books that were new to you in 2009, if not necessarily published this year.)

My answer....I read a lot of good books this year but "The Left Behind Series" has got be be my all time favorite.  My family was thrilled when I finished all 13 books because every single spare second that I had, the books would be in my hands.  I would become so engrossed in the reading of each book to the point where I would lose track of time and forget about feeding them (lol)

As 2009 comes to a close and a new year is around the corner, I have been reflecting on this year.  My family has had to deal with a lot of  tough issues, that is life and what is important is how we deal with and learn from them but with the help from above we have made it through.   I am closing that chapter and keeping the chapters that were the good ones in 2009.  My oldest son getting a fantastic job in his field, my youngest son moving (even though that was a little hard on me) out of state where his heart has taken him.  I am very thankful for the love that our family and friends embraced us with during the trying times, being lucky enough to have them in our lives.  And for me, stumbling onto a book blog.  To all the new friends I have made that have the same level for the love of books and who I can discuss and share with.  So many of you to thank...where I would visit, read the posts and admire your blogs but not know about following.  For giving me the incentive to try and create a page as my "personal journal" and then taking it to a level that has amazed me.  Special thanks to those of you for encouraging me, being patient and helpful when I had blog/computer questions and who gave me the courage to be put on the "requested reviews" list. Thank you ( in no particular order) Vicki from Reading At The Beach, Lori from Lori's Reading Corner, J.Kaye at J.Kaye's Book Blog and Karen at Bookin' With Bingo.  And special thanks to those who have joined on as followers of my blog.  I will always post with you in mind so that you will visit often. And to 2010,  my goals are meeting more nice people, coming close and maybe even hitting the 100+ challenge and to where ever this blog takes me.  Thank you all.

Crossing The Bridge by Michael Baron (Rating--5)
Publisher: The Story Plant
ISBN-13: 978-0-9819568-1-7
At the request of the publisher, a PB copy was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest review.
Synopsis: Hugh Penders returns to his home in Amber, CT a small town in New England, after 10 years of working various jobs in multiple locations never putting down roots or truly knowing what it is he wants to do. He returns home to work in the family store after his father suffers a heart attack. He plans on staying only long enough for his Dad to get on his feet. Amber holds too many painful memories of his brother Chase, who died August 10th at the age of 18, ten years ago when his car went off Pine River Bridge. He has held a secret within since that fateful day.
My thoughts: This novel was not my usual read as I tend to gravitate toward fast paced mystery/suspense. However, I was drawn in by the first chapter. This novel is a love story that tugs on your heart from page one. The characters came to life to the point I didn't want the story to end. The turmoil of Hugh's emotions of grief, love, confusion, loyalty and pain were felt with the writer's sensitive words.
My Opinion and Rating: This was not your typical love story. It was a love story on many levels some being between friends, parents and children, siblings, and mates. The characters took on a real life quality whereas they could have been my family and friends. Being from New England myself, the descriptions of Amber could have been that of where I live. I highly recommend this warm and touching love story and have rated it a Level 5. I will be reading Mr. Baron's 1st novel "When You Went Away" ASAP and will be anxiously awaiting his next book "The Journey Home" due out May 11, 2010.

Relax and Read Weekend

Today I plan to relax and read after I post. Am apologizing in advance for rambling but have a bit to say today and to thank someone very special.

Yesterday I asked other bloggers if the enjoyment I am feeling regarding this new found world of blogging lasts or is it because it is a new hobby. I heard from some bloggers that it does, thank you to those who commented. I am so glad to hear that it will last!!
This weekend here in New England it has been raining and certain weather conditions affect my back. I am disabled due to severe chronic spinal pain, as a result of 3 prior back fusion surgeries that included internal plates and screws. Some days the pain is paralyzing and just doing minor household chores is difficult. Next week I have an appt to see if I am a candidate for a nerve stimulator implant. Even though this is a 2 part surgical procedure, if it decreases the pain even 25% I will be happy. This new hobby has helped me on those days where the pain is excruciating. Reading was always an escape and now finding blogs and the people associated with the blogs has helped me in ways that are even surprising to me. Thank you !!!

Thank You
AND a special THANK YOU to my son Mark. I have stated that I am computer challenged and there were certain items that I wanted on my sidebar for the upcoming 2010 challenges that I am so excited about!! For weeks I have been trying to figure out how to create these features. Mark is "home" for the holidays and yesterday within 30 minutes he generated the code and added it. Also if you see any changes to my page in the future, it will be Mark's doing. He wants to change some things...not sure what he means...so there is a chance that some morning I will boot up and be surprised. He will be leaving this coming weekend to go to his home in PA. So to my baby, THANK YOU for having the patience to help me and for being a great son. I LOVE YOU !!!

BOOK REVIEWS General Blinkies

Illusion (A Novella) by Edmond Cheng  (Rating 3.5)
MS Fiction Presents "Unearthed" An Anthololgy of Suspense
ISSN 1555 Vol. 109-22ED
At the request of the author, a PDF copy was sent at no cost to me for my honest review.
Synopsis: Thomas Chen is visited by his longtime friend Jonathan's mother who delivers a warning about Jonathan But how can that be since she passed away 2 months ago. Visions and severe headaches are plaguing Thomas' brain. Could these visions be the result of demons, or maybe physical and/or psychological in nature.
Synopsis: Was skeptical at first but as I continued reading I found myself wanting to read more. The author's detailed written words allowed this reader to form graphically vivid thoughts. The plot was suspenseful and held my attention to the end. However, I felt that the dialogue between characters were simplistic.
My Rating: 3.5 I gave this rating due to the dialogue and at times somewhat confusing at what the author was trying to convey. However, the suspense and detailed words were very enjoyable. This is a new author but this reader feels that with more writing experience, this will not be his last book.

Almost Dead by Lisa Jackson (Rating 5)
Ebook purchased by me
Cissy Cahill Holt's life is in chaos.  She is a single parent of a toddler, is in the process of a divorce and her mother, who she never had a great relationship with, has escaped from prison.  Cissy maintains a tolerable relationship with her grandmother, the matriach of the Cahill fortune, until Cissy finds her murdered.  As the police try and locate her mother, more members of her family are turning up dead.
This book was a white knuckle, fast paced, can't put down read with chapters that at times had me gasping in surprise.  Am definitely looking forward to reading another Lisa Jackson book.

Off to wrapping presents and then reading and finishing my current read.  But first...was thinking... What makes you do this? If you’re a ’shelver’, why do you think you don’t read the books right away? Do you ever feel guilty for letting the books sit there, unread? If you’re a ‘read-em-now’ person, why do you feel they have to be read right away? Do you give away the books when you’re done, too?

It depends...but the majority of time they go onto my bookshelf to read "later". I am doing the same with my ereader. I buy several titles and I think I do this so when I finish my current read I have a selection to choose from depending on my mood. I will confess...there are still some on my shelves from years ago...guess I just haven't been in the mood for those lol. Happy Reading all

It is still snowing here in New England...some areas with over a foot of snow and drifts even higher. I am not a snow person but today I don't even care....my very considerate and loving hubby received a call last night that my laptop was ready and knowing the forecast for today, he went to pick it up around 10pm. Will be spending quality time today with "Lily Laptop"...named after one of my favorite flowers the Stargazer Lily. It is going to take me time to get all my settings back. And seeing that I am not computer savvy, Lily and I will be spending a lot of time over the next couple of days. Have a great Sunday and be careful on the roads for those who are getting their shopping done.

NEW ENGLAND TODAY

Talk & Thoughts Free Avatars

OK...patience is definitely wearing thin....it is noon and no call from the "Geek Squad". I am publicly apologizing to my laptop for the names I called it when it would freeze or kick me off. LOL Please come home. I am crossing my fingers that maybe there is some hope that I will get the call before the "blizzard" predicted starts. Until then...I will be "Relaxing and Reading" in between laundry. And for those who are also in the path of this blizzard and/or on the road finishing Christmas shopping....PLEASE be careful.
Relax and Read Weekend

OK....I think that I have been more than patient with leaving my laptop with the "Geek Squad" last weekend and have been told that it will be ready later tonight or tomorrow, I realize I am having separation anxiety with my computer. Knowing now how important it is to me, how did we live pre internet time, that I should name my bff. So I am open to suggestions from my blogger friends what I should call/name it when I finally have it back. Here in New England, we are under a blizzard watch for this weekend (weather like what is predicted increases the pain in my back) and since my shopping is done, I plan on the usual....Relax and Read. But I also plan on spending quality time with my friend...my laptop. Tweaking my site or maybe even finding a new template for the new year. Am hoping that everyone has a great weekend...try to relax and read lol...yea...right...the weekend before Christmas and if you get a chance, help me name my laptop for it's homecoming.

Going to continue with a holiday theme.
Any favorite holiday ornament on tree?

We have collected a dated and different Hallmark collectible ornament for every year that we have been married. My 2 favorite ones are for the years of my 2 sons' birth. As of this year we have 28. When my boys get married I plan to start their collection.

BOOK REVIEWS General Blinkies

Lost Souls by Lisa Jackson  Rating 3.5
EBook purchased by me
Kristi Bentz returns to her alma mater, All Saints, where 4 students have gone missing.  Police feel that they are runaways.  Kristi starts investigating what happens especially when she learns that the apartment she has rented was leased by Tara, one of the missing.  There is one connection...all were taking the same English courses at the college, which now Kristi is enrolled in.  She teams up with her ex bf because of his crime lab experience.  Then the girls are found dead and Kristi learns that there is a cult on campus.
My opinion:  At times it was a good read but when it came to the vampire plot I felt it was unrealistic.  It could be that I am just not interested in books of that nature.

UPDATE:  Unfortunately my puter was sicker than I thought.  Word from "Geek Squad" is that I will be getting it back the end of this week.  Am disappointed as I am not able to enter my daily memes, etc.  On the bright side tho I just finished Lost Souls by Lisa Jackson for J.Kaye's Lisa Jackson challenge.  Will be starting another one of her suspenseful books today.  I miss all the fun :(   Happy Reading !!!!!!

Unfortunately I won't be posting much for the next couple of days  :(.  I joked about having my fingers crossed with Bookin' With Bingo's giveaway and then my computer crashed.  My laptop is being diagnosed by "The Geek Squad" and hopefully will get it back ASAP.  I am borrowing hubby's computer for emails and checking web page, but since everything else (programs, saved blog info, etc) is on my laptop, posting is difficult.  I hope I can join in for the memes this week.  My personal meme for Relax and Read weekend, I am accomplishing due to technical difficulties.  Have a good Sunday and relax!!!

I just started my morning routine...booted up computer, grabbed my coffee and started reading my book blog newsletters that I subscribe to.  This post will be very short as I am running off to Bookin' With Bingo's blog as she is having a giveaway of 3...thats right 3...Alex Cross books by James Patterson.  If you are a lover of suspense reads then this giveaway is for you too.  You can link there from this post or grab her button on my left sidebar.  Keeping fingers crossed on winning these.  So I might not be posting much because it is tough typing with fingers crossed lol.

Taking the plunge...what I consider the biggest challenge !!!!  I have been spending more time on the computer working on my blog page than actually reading.  This challenge hosted by J. Kaye (will put the link up later this afternoon) is for 2010 100+ books.  I will be happy if I even get close to that number but am going to be reading more and remodeling my page less.  GLA who entered, especially me LOL.

Once again !!!!!
Somebody asked me today "How are you keeping your sanity with everything you are going through and all the problems that you are facing?"  My answer was genuine, truthful and simple....the world of books, blogging and the very nice people I have met via the computer.  OK.....When I created my page, which was a tiny miracle in itself, it was just going to be a way to track the books I had read.  I then challenged myself to enter a reading challenge for 2010.  Didn't even know what a meme was but I was determined to find out and have joined a meme for everyday...except Thursday but I know I will find one hopefully before this Thursday.  I can't believe how much I am enjoying this and how it is helping me to deal with what I am going through.  So getting back to this posting.....Over the next couple of days, it will probably take that long due to my ineptness of technology, I will be remodeling my page.   Nothing major but I want it more organized for me because I plan on adding more challenges and memes.  Giving another shout out for any suggestions for a Thursday meme, how and what is a permalink,  how to get the percentage bar from NaNoWriMo to work and/or another site where I can find one.  And maybe, just maybe, my blog will be more than a personal journal in the future.

*Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Joined in today for my first meme !!!!! Have decided that I will be continuing the Relax and Read Weekend.  Feel free to join me!!!!.  Now just need suggestions for memes on Wed. & Thursday and the week will be filled.  This new world of blogging is helping me more than one knows.  Today the back pain is intolerable but am coping due to my new hobby and reading, which I will be getting back to after this post.  I am currently reading Lost Souls by Lisa Jackson which is a Challenge I entered via J.Kaye's Book Blog.

Any help with the NaNoWriMo meter would be greatly appreciated.  Having trouble getting it to work and show the % of books read.  I have seen this meter on many blogs and would really like to see my progress show especially since I am planning on adding many more challenges

Musing Mondays Photobucket

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about library etiquette…
It amazes me how parents allow their children to run around, laughing and talking loudly. But then so do the parents so I guess I shouldn't be surprised since the parents should be setting an example at an early age. When my boys were small we would be at the library 2-3 times a week. Especially before they started school and our local library had activites for the preschoolers. They knew that we had to use our "library voices" so not to disturb other patrons who were reading and/or studying. It must have made an impression on my boys because while in college, one came home from the library and complained how he couldn't study because of the rudeness of others.

Keeping my fingers crossed.  Just entered for a giveaway over at J. Kaye's blog(http://j-kaye-book-blog.blogspot.com) for Dying Scream by Mary Burton.  I have read some great reviews on this one and it is on my TBR list.  J. Kaye has a lot of  books for giveaways this month.

Thinking I also have found memes for Mondays and Tuesdays...am open to suggestion for the other days.  Off to relaxing and reading.  Have a good night all.

Talk & Thoughts Free Avatars

Confession...I had good intentions to relax and read this weekend.  However, I needed to do those dreaded (lol) things in life...laundry, groceries, minor chores.  BUT when I was done I treated myself to do the things I enjoy....purchase and d/l the books I bought.  I also visited some of my favorite blogs and found new ones that are now on my blog list.  I also entered in another challenge for 2010 which Royal Reviews is hosting (http://theroyalreviews.blogspot.com) and entered my 1st meme which An Island Life (http://islandlife808.com) hosts...Aloha Friday.  My new self challenge is to find memes for each day.  Suggestions are welcomed as I am on the prowl for finding them.

My mantra is "everything happens for a reason".  Since stumbling on the world of blogging, I have met some  very kind and friendly people.  Life has its up and downs and even some very difficult obstacles that we all have to deal with and overcome.  I would like to publicly and sincerely say Thank You to all those on my blog list as I am so enjoying this new world of blogging. It is definitely helping me deal with life's challenges that I am facing and dealing with.  Again...THANK YOU

BOOK REVIEWS General Blinkies

Locked In by Marcia Muller  Rating 5+
From the cover jacket...Sudden flash, loud pop. Rush of pain. OMG, I've been shot--Nothing.
This reader was hooked before page 1.  Sharon McCone, PI has been shot in the head and there is damage.  A brain injury of being Locked In (a real medical injury)  In a coma for 11 days after being shot.  Slowly she comes out of the coma BUT she realizes she can't move, can't communicate but hears everything.  This reader felt the terror, fright and trauma of being Locked In from the author's words.  Then those around McCone realize she does hear and the only way she can communicate is by blinking her eyelids..once for yes, two for no.  She doesn't remember all the details of being shot but what she does remember she can't communicate.  Once again, this reader could feel McCone's fustration and the terror of her prognosis of being Locked In.  Her employees try to find the shooter.  This was a nail biter down to the last page.  Mysteries within Mystery.  I have never read any of her books but am now a fan and will be reading her past and future novels.  This book was exceptional for those who like suspense.

Where have I been? lol  I won Locked In by Marcia Muller and is my current read.  So far this has all the qualities that I love in a book.  Page turning story line, short chapters and come to life characters.  This is the first time reading and/or hearing of this author.  If this continues, as I am 1/2 done, I will have to d/l to my ereader her prior books.  I have a doctor's appt. today and for the first time am hoping she is running late so I can read.  Will give rating and full review when I finish reading it.

Also, thank you new followers for stopping by.  Hope you enjoyed my blog!

Computer still acting up :(  But wanted to welcome any new comers to my blog.  I have stumbled on to many nice blogs and have met even nicer people.  One being Vicki at Reading At The Beach that I have mentioned before.  Yesterday I awarded her with "The Beautiful Heart" award for having an inspirational blog site and overall an inspirational person.  I felt that she was so deserving of this for all the help she has given me.  And to my surprise...this morning I started my daily routine.....boot up my computer, grab a cup of coffee and read all my book blog newsletters, and there is a public thank you from Vicki and sending readers my way.  As I am a newbie, any suggestions will be accepted lol.  And thank you for stopping by.

This has not happened to me in quite a while.  After reading over 100 pages, I closed the book due to boredom!!!!  What I did manage to read, I found to be fluff and wordy with no suspense grabbing and/or page turning story line.  Quite disappointed but this is only my opinion.

Regarding my Sony Ereader:
Last night I downloaded the 1st book, and will be downloading many more in the future, from my local library.  I think this is great!!!!!!!!!!!!  No fee !!!!!!!!!! It works as if you were to check out books pre digital age.  Six books can be downloaded at a time and this can be done anytime 24/7.  The books will be saved on your reader for approximately 3 weeks, just like if you checked out the books in person.  Also if it is a new release you can put a hold on a title and will receive an email stating the book is ready for d/l.  I am so excited about this feature of the Sony Ereader and this will make blog challenges easier and can enter into a lot more challenges.

BOOK REVIEWS General Blinkies

Run For Your Life by James Patterson (Rating 4.5)
I won this book from Luxury Reading blog site.  Another one of my favorite sites and another site that should be visited.  The link is:  http://www.luxuryreading.com/.
As expected, it was a fast paced and page turning read.  Mr. Patterson has created another likeable character, Det. Michael Bennett and his family of ten (10) adopted children.  Alex Cross has competition with Det. Bennett.  Someone is killing the affluent people of New York and some of the murders take place during the day with witnesses.  What is the link between these victims?  Det. Bennett thinks he has figured out the killer's next target and beefs up security including himself.  He is right except the killer has one more stop to make and that is Det. Bennett's home where the 10 children are!!!
There was only one thing that I found to be unrealistic about this book and will have to reread the reviews of other bloggers.  The killer's weapon are guns and the killings are at close range.  After the murders, he walks by witnesses, down streets, etc, etc and there is no mention that he is covered in blood from the close range of his MO.  I am looking forward to February 2010 when "Worst Case", another Det. Bennett book, will be released.

Great Giveaway !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Head on over to Sweeps4bloggers especially if you are like me when it comes to my glasses.  It was hard just to pick one pair.  I either can't find where I put my glasses or my husband takes them by "accident".  One day I searched for my glasses for an hour and then called hubby at work to see if he had seen them,  his response was an oops that he had put them in his pocket.  I used an old, cheap pair that I found.  Couldn't wait for him to get home so I could see.  He had another oops for me...he had sat on them and broke them.  That's why I am excited about this giveaway..I would know that I had a stylish extra pair.

11/14/09  Bittersweet feelings today...my baby moved out of state today.  I am so very happy for him as he starts a new journey in his life.   But will greatly miss him.  It all hit me last night when we went out to celebrate my older son's bday and my younger son's plan to move.  Where did the time go?  It seems like yesterday that they were born.  Emotions flowed when I looked at them and saw the men they have become.  I am so very thankful and proud to see what great kids they were and continue to be.  I love you guys!!  You two are the greatest gifts that God gave me.

11/13/09  Happy Birthday Paul !!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I can't believe that my first born is 26....just know that I have enjoyed every day.  The best years of my life were when you and your brother were young.  And seeing both of you grow into becoming great, fantastic, caring men makes me proud.  Love you !!!!!

11/12/09 EXCITING NEWS....Visit bibliofreak.com to enter into a GREAT giveaway......a KINDLE 2.  I just entered and entry is easy.   My son's gf is just like me when it comes to books...always has one at hand.  Since hubby just bought me an ereader, I would give it to her.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  Visit ASAP for this fantastic giveaway http://bibliofreakblog.com/great-kindle-giveaway/?ref=318971bead

11/12/09  It has been an emotional and physically rough week to say the least.  Surgery for a nerve stimulator was booked for next week and then cancelled.  I was hoping that this least invasive surgery was going to decrease my spinal pain and was so excited that it would mean only a few more days to withstand the pain.  But then the doctor was not sure if it could be done due to the inability to position me on the OR table because of the hardware that is presently in my spine.  So back to square one.  However with some research and help from the manufacturer we have found another doctor out of state that may be able to do the surgery.  Now I have to wait while he reviews all my records.  AND then this morning I boot up my computer and there is an email that I have won the Mindhunter Triology by Kylie Brant from Bookin' With Bingo blog site.  I was so excited.  My mantra is "everything happens for a reason".  Stumbling upon book blogs a few months ago and reading has helped me in getting through many painful days.  Thank you Karen at Bookin'WithBingo.blogspot.com.

11/08/09  Thinking that I have my new blog done....for now... unless anyone has suggestions.  Thoughts on my new Sony ereader (PRS600).  At first I was disappointed not holding a book, turning pages, the smell of a new book and the overall feelings of a book in hand.  But that soon changed.  I liked the touch screen, the ability to adjust font size,  keeping track of the page I stopped reading at (no dog ears, which I didn't do often,or having my bookmark fall out and trying to find where it was),  the weight of the reader especially when reading in bed, the features (dictionary, notes, portability, having books d/l in seconds). After reading a book on the ereader, I then started reading a HC that I had won from a favorite blog and I wished it was in ereader format.  The price of books to d/l are approx 1/2 of what paperbacks cost and in researching, public libraries are now offering d/l as if I were to check out a book.  I try to pass my books on or donate and the fact that the clutter of having so many books is another nice feature.  Since I will be having multiple surgical procedures in the coming months, which is why my hubby ordered it for me, my ereader will be getting a lot of use.  The only feature that I  I don't like is that there is no back light which makes it difficult to read when reading in bed.  However, I have ordered a light that attaches which was not expensive.  Overall,  I am very happy with the reader.

11/05/09  Thank You Karen from Bookin' With Bingo for taking the time to visit.  Getting there with my new blog look...learning as I go.  My next goal will be to get involved with my favorite blog sites' challenges and gathering buttons, etc.

11/04/2009  I am enjoying visiting my favorite blogs.   I am trying to learn how to get a new blog setup.  It is definitely harder than I thought.  This is going to be a challenge for me but I am going to keep trying.

10/19/09  Am so excited!! Yesterday my hubby ordered a gift for me, that being a Sony ereader.  I am moving forward in this technological world.  Can't wait to get my hands on it.  THEN figure out how it works lol.  After reading a review on "Reading At The Beach" of Karen Rose, "I Can See You", that will definitely be the first ebook.

I am still learning this new world of blogs and blogging.  What I really need is advice in how to find and/or make time to visit my favorite blogs, read my current book faster and find time for the ugly reality of house chores of cleaning, cooking, shopping, laundry, etc, etc.  Thinking that many of the seasoned bloggers know but I haven't seen or found their secrets yet.  But I am determined to find out lol.  I am sooo addicted.

WooHoo!!!!!!!! I am in business LOL.  I have my first follower.  Thank you Reading At The Beach !!!!!!!!

Giveaway "The Lincoln Lawyer" 01/21 to 02/08 ENDED

ImageChef.com - Custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more

THE LINCOLN LAWYER
by MICHAEL CONNELLY

January 21st to February 8th

SYNOPSIS (borrowed from B&N):
New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly delivers his first legal thriller--an incendiary tale about a cynical defense attorney whose one remaining spark of integrity may cost him his life.
Mickey Haller has spent all his professional life afraid that he wouldn't recognize innocence if it stood right in front of him. But what he should have been on the watch for was evil.<
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend the clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients.
From bikers to con artists to drunk drivers and drug dealers, they're all on Mickey Haller's client list. But when a Beverly Hills rich boy is arrested for brutally beating a woman, Haller has his first high-paying client in years. It's a franchise case and he's sure it will be a slam dunk in the courtroom. For once, he may be defending a client who is actually innocent.
But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face-to-face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame. To escape without being burned, Haller must use all of his skills to manipulate a system in which he no longer believes.
