JULY 29th to AUGUST 12th, 2011
LEFT NEGLECTED
by LISA GENOVA, Ph.D.
SYNOPSIS (borrowed from B&N):
Sarah Nickerson, like any other working mom, is busy trying to have it all. One morning while racing to work and distracted by her cell phone, she looks away from the road for one second too long. In that blink of an eye, all the rapidly moving parts of her over-scheduled life come to a screeching halt. After a brain injury steals her awareness of everything on her left side, Sarah must retrain her mind to perceive the world as a whole. In so doing, she also learns how to pay attention to the people and parts of her life that matter most.
In this powerful and poignant New York Times bestseller, Lisa Genova explores what can happen when we are forced to change our perception of everything around us. Left Neglected is an unforgettable story about finding abundance in the most difficult of circumstances, learning to pay attention to the details, and nourishing what truly matters.

What a great contest! I have a friend who had surgery for a benign brain tumor - the surgery left her with some problems, but nothing that severe. Please enter me! kathy(at)bermudaonion.net
This does sound fascinating. Like you, though, I'm too far behind to enter the giveaway, lol, though I will make a note of this one for the future.
Thankfully I do not know anyone suffering like this! But my heart goes out to anyone that does.

I am thankful that I do not know anyone with a brain injury. I'd hate for anyone I love to suffer. Heck, I hate for anyone I don't know to suffer.

One of my best friends had a stroke a few years ago and suffers from left neglect. Trouble is she is/was left hand dominant, too. I would love to read this book.

My brother-in-law was in a terrible accident about 6 years ago and suffered a brain injury. He still has some problems and will have to take meds for the rest of his life. He is actually doing pretty well under the circumstances.

No I don't but I am sure it is difficult not be able to do the same things you can do before. The brain controls so much of your body. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book. Tore923@aol.com

My Uncle and Aunt were in a terrible car accident that left my Uncle brain injured. He was functioning but at around a 12year old level sort of, somethings better others not. Sometimes he knew how much he'd changed, other times not. (he couldn't remember once he woke up from the coma, that he smoked.)
The thing was he was changed. Just not the same person. Still wonderful and all, but just different. He functioned that was for over 20 years.

Yes, I do know someone with a brain injury. My brother-in-law was in a car wreck years ago. It left him in really bad shape, and he is now like a child in mind. He has spent most of his life in a nursing home. Really very sad. Love to read this book. Please enter me. Thanks!

I don't personally know anyone suffering from a brain injury. What a devastating injury to deal with.
mybeachlife at gmail dot com
No I dont
Yes, I do and did! I had a son in a near drowning when he was 13 months old. He was visiting his grandparents and he fell in the columbia river and was dead for over 20 minutes. A very long nightmare story. He is not here anymore and lived to be 18 with severe cerebral palsy and was unable to do anything for himself. I could write a book. I am also a nurse and have taken care of and met many people with this problem. It affects the entire family.

I am an RN so have worked with many head injuries. Not all are trauma induced, we forget about the internal problems causing injuries also. The worst to watch is the struggle of not driving and becoming dependant on someone else!

My sophomore year in college a friend did almost exactly the same thing and was irrevocably changed and not for the better.
Most recently a co worker was beaten so badly her brain swelled...didn't seem to be a permanent injury
