Today's question:
What is the last book you struggled to read through to the end, even though you weren’t really enjoying it? What made you keep reading?

My answer:
This is a difficult question for me to answer.  Lately I am struggling to read every book I pick up.  Not that I am not enjoying it, but I just can't find the time to put into it or when I do, I am not focusing.  I did pick up a book this month that is due for a review, Bloodline, by Mark Billingham and struggled to get through the first 50 pages so I put it aside thinking it was due to my frame of mind and picked up my current read.  I realize, that since I am further along in The Good Sister by Drusilla Campbell, maybe Bloodline was not a good match for me.  But that really doesn't answer today's question because I never struggled to the end, I struggled to my cut off point.

According to Marcia, “Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.”

I have been lucky - lately I've enjoyed all the books I've read and haven't been struggling through anything. I just wish I had more reading time. My MM is here

Enjoy your new books!

yes, sometimes it is our frame of mind and not the book's fault. I find that hard when it is a review copy that I feel an obligation to read...but what can you do?

I think mood definitely has something to do with it at times. Hot Wire was in my mailbox too; that should be a riveting read. Have a great week, Cheryl, and enjoy your new reads!

A lot of times when I struggle with a book it's because I'm distracted, so I know what you mean. I read A Hundred Thousand Kingdoms for my book club earlier this year and really struggled through it.

I haven't struggled with a book for a few years, but I do remember the two I struggled with, but managed to get them read. I no longer do that, I read between 50-75 pages and if I'm not drawn into the story, It goes by the wayside. I have to many books on my bookshelves to waste my time reading something I don't enjoy.

Sometimes it's just not the right time for a particular book. Hope you don't have any problems with HOT WIRE!

I am struggling right now with 'Velva Jean Learns to Fly: A Novel'. I didn't read the first one the series and have only read a few pages in it but need to do a review on it. I picked up the other book that I am reading and thoroughly interested in 'The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks' by Rebecca Skloot and decided to read it to the finish. Then, I will come back to the first book and give it one more chance.
